what time where you there? I only saw my fish and another guy with 2 fish and everyone else was empty handed. Did you fish the afternoon? Be sure and check for closure before driving up again...it is suppose to close maybe by morning. Glad I got this out before it closes.

So did the river close or not? I'm confused of why it would close in the heart of steelie season.

It hasn't closed yet, you'll just have to keep an eye on the emergency regs until they announce it.

Part of the Cascade River will close to fishing

Action: Part of the Cascade River will be closed to fishing.

Effective dates: Jan. 5, through Jan. 31, 2013.

Species affected: All species.

Location: The Cascade River from the Rockport-Cascade Road downstream to the mouth.

Reasons for action: The Marblemount Hatchery has been unable to collect enough returning hatchery winter steelhead broodstock to meet egg take needs. Closure of the fishery is needed to collect sufficient fish to meet egg take needs.

Other information: On Feb. 1 the fishery will re-open to fishing as listed in the 2012-13 Fishing in Washington sport fishing pamphlet.

So I was off by a couple days but I knew it was going to close. The reason it has to close is that the traps have not got any fish, and in the last week there has only been a few in the creek leading up to the hatchery(one being a hen about 15 pounds, sweet looking fish). They know that they will get enought fish for the egg takes but they have to do the responible thing and close it to be absultly sure the hatchery gets the fish it needs. (Danny I know you don't think they will come but just watch the numbers they report, it will be a big year for the hatchery). As soon as we get a good warming and get some snow melt the river will go up and the fish will come in!! Only problem is we will not be there to catch any, until Feb.

Who wants to bet there'll be a huge amount of snowmelt on like, the 28th and 99% of them will be in the hatchery by the 31st. #-o

That is exactly what I have been saying to people, well kinda. I have been saying that once we get the water, the fish are going to want to shot straight to the hatchery. When we get some water, if it is real high water, most will go straight to hatchery.

But "most" means what? The majority of the 20 fish in the river? Still wont help if theres no fish. If they were in the river, youd be catching lots
