It was merely confidence that if there were that many steelhead in there i would do good but since 90% of the people there got skunked, it is going to be hard to back it up that is why I am glad I even got one especially when I only had 4 hours to fish that day.

I thought that was you kock, but since you are in montana or something I did not want to seem stupid if that was not you, I also saw FF pulling a couple out from clarks creek too butr did not feel like saying hey that early wanted to get my own fish but it was slow, I did get one sunday so I was 5 off of my prediction I guess FFs fish photos can be decieving, looked like it was easy fishing.
I also saw chasin chrome or chrome chasin? I thought he was bill herzog at first haha.
Also met a guy named salmonnerd he was pretty cool and really good too.
Ur right, just cause im catchin fish doesnt mean anyone else is. its actually been a pretty slow start. Obviously i know the cascade well so ive been catching fish downriver and in the secret pockets and stuff. Thats where the pics were from but as you saw from last week the overall fishin up near the hatchery hasnt really taken off yet. Give it a few weeks and come back itll be better

but not too high right FF haha, I was surprised how quickly those rivers can out and in shape up there.
I don't know if you checked the little eddy out FF but there is a darn tree where I stand on the rock haha, last high water really changed things up.
Also looked like the log jam may have changed but not sure.

Re: "The Snag Fest" Whatcom Creek
In case you don't know,
Whatcom Creek will close to fishing
Action: Closes Whatcom Creek.
Effective dates: Dec. 10, 2012 until further notice.
Species affected: All species of fish.
Location: Whatcom Creek, from the mouth to Woburn Street Bridge.
Reasons for action: The Kendall Creek Hatchery and Whatcom Creek Hatchery programs in recent years have had difficulty securing sufficient eggs from returning hatchery winter steelhead to meet basin production goals. As in past years, closure of the fishery is necessary to collect sufficient fish to meet egg-take needs.
Other information: When the combined broodstock needs of Kendall Creek Hatchery and Whatcom Creek Hatchery are met, the fishery will revert to seasons as listed in the Sport fishing Rules 2012/2013 pamphlet edition, FISHING IN WASHINGTON.

Re: "The Snag Fest" Whatcom Creek
Whatcom Creek always closes in December. They never get their egg take requirement. This isn't old news. And the past 7 years I've been fishing it, I've only hooked 2 and caught one. I've only seen 2 caught there other than my one fish. Plus only 2-10 make it there daily, usually on the lower end.
They're never on the bite at the wall, everyone is ripping line. Nine times out of ten, the fish will be hooked in the ass or the body. The only chance you have at getting one legally is to floss or go up into the system where there isn't any holding water. Its pure hit and miss if you actually get one to legitly take your bait. The fish always shoot up. Plus 3/4 of the river up is closed or a juvenile only fishery. It's pointless to have them there. This is just like the skook or by the bridge on the ditch. It's that bad.
I know for a fact it will open late December or early January. The thing is the run is over. Like I said there is no point to fish it other than the chums and kings in the fall and summer. The stocked trout and the src's are there too btw. They're not that hard to catch.

Lol. I meant skok. I have fished the skook though. The terminal fishery is ok, but can be bad. I usually hike away from it.
And fishenfreak, I'm serious. Very few go through the system. Have you caught any?

skok is not that bad, simply use eggs and it can be a boat load of fun. Yeah sometimes the skook can get bad though specially up by the dam but below the salmon hatchery there is like no one.

The skok can be really bad though. I fished it a couple of times this year and only about half were floating eggs. I don't fish it often though. I live 3 hours away haha. I bet I was there when it was a really bad day, I guess.

Re: "The Snag Fest" Whatcom Creek
Plenty on eggs upriver and on low tide on float and eggs when they get stuck in the pools below the wall. Since they just came in from the salt there, they are some of the most aggressive steelhead ive ever seen. If the snaggers are there just go upriver. If not the wall fish hammer first cast. Too bad its closed!!beachbum97 wrote:Lol. I meant skok. I have fished the skook though. The terminal fishery is ok, but can be bad. I usually hike away from it.

Re: "The Snag Fest" Whatcom Creek
It closes the 10th. Looks like I have to check it out then. So eggs then? The one I hooked this year was off of wall with float and jig. I floated the seam that the wall makes as soon as it cuts off to go to the stairs.
Whenever I see a steelhead there so does this tall guy who always has polorized sun glass. He tells everyone that there's steel and to cast in front of it then yank. I saw him every time I was there. I don't even get to the fish.
