Northwest Fishing Reports

Every year it gets worse and worse, people littering the river with trash and line! The amount of disrespect on the river is absolutely mind blowing! People do not know the limits and poach fish and on top of that they ruwin the spawning habbitat with all of the litter and line. And yet people wonder why the fisheries r so bad.. grr

I saw everyone does what we do down at the Cowlitz. Place garbage bags in the popular holes everyone fishes (where they can not be washed away when water rises.) And everyone picks up their trash and throws it away. When the bag is full an honest well kept fisherman carries it out. The bag will be replaced by someone their is no need to concern over not having another on you to replace it. Their is no need to leave beer cans, line, ect, ect, all over the river or lake. Just rude and disrespectful and has the potential to shut down your favorite waters be doing so.

It will be really bad in the next month or so when the pinks are in thick and every yahoo and their cousin will be out drinking, snagging and littering. I've nearly stopped river fishing to get away from this type of scene as it ruins the experience for me.

SF, maybe for your first post on WAlakes.com you should post an introduction and something productive. This kind of open ended rant doesn't really help anyone, and certainly doesn't stop the littering.

Please PLEASE for the LOVE OF GOD lets not request that "everyone does what they do on the Cowlitz"! That river is LITTERED with garbage! I pack out a vest full EVERY time I am down there. It's like a landfill at Blue Creek.


Its pretty simple folks, pack out what you pack in. Bring a garbage sack and grab some other stuff in your immediate area if you're a bankie as well. If you're in a boat, the only things going into the water should be bait, and lure! (and the net if you are among the fortunate!)

Matt in june we were pulling 25 bucks worth of hooks and corkies/lures.

I don't event want to start about river respect about alot people.

A day to clean up our precious Wenatchee River

CASHMERE — Call it a river party with a purpose. Volunteers are needed for the third annual Wenatchee River cleanup from 9 a.m. until noon Sunday, Aug. 21.

“The Wenatchee River is a pretty big draw for people to this area. It’s our gem. We want it to be as clean and safe as possible,” said Matt Shales, natural resource specialist for the Chelan County Natural Resources Department. The department is working with Cascadia Conservation District and Chelan-Douglas Land Trust to rid the river and its banks of metal debris and trash while raising awareness about salmon recovery, Shales said.

Clean-up stations will be set up Sunday at four access points on the river where volunteers can base their projects. Sites include Riverfront Park in Cashmere, Lower Monitor Bridge in Monitor, Dryden Dam in Dryden and Old Barn Farm on Chumstick Creek.

Gloves, trash bags, other clean-up supples and refreshments will be provided. Experienced rafters and kayakers can float the river between the sites to collect trash and debris. Heavy equipment will be brought in to remove at least one vehicle from a site on the lower Wenatchee, near Monitor. Shales said the vehicle is an overturned Jeep that was swept away by the river during the 1995 floods.

The clean-up program began 2009 with funding from the state Department of Ecology. Private donations continued the program last year. The project received funding this year from the National Fish and Wildlife Department’s Adopt-a-River program. More than 120 volunteers have removed more than 7,000 pounds of metal and trash from the river over the past two years, Shales said.

I love pointing out loudly when i get to the river the people that set there trash down. some get real quite and feel dumb others are a holes until they see me/ 6'7" 250lbs and always open carry. I hate, sorry strong word, I steam when I see people enjoying the river and the fun of fishing then leave everything on the beach. I also leave the area with a full garbage sack of garbage that is not mine. maybe they think there is a maid that comes by[-x ?
