Fishing the Brewster Pool???

Post by Big D » Sun Jul 15, 2012 1:42 pm

I would normally launch from the unimproved boat launch just up the Okanogan River from the Brewster pool but that launch has become risky because it's kind of hidden and has been getting a few brake ins lately. I'm thinking that I'll launch from the city boat launch in Brewster and head up the river from there. I've never launched from Brewster so I'm wondering about the river channel. I was told once a long time ago that you should hang to the north shore. Is this true? Anything else that I need to be aware of?

The water at Brewster is incredibly freaking high right now by all accounts. I don't think you have to worry about it. There were over 150 boats in the pool Saturday morning.

google the city campground and I believe there's a link to the launch and the area to watch out for. I'm headed up on Wednesday and think that's where I saw the picture with the rocks.

Troutsniper how was the catching on Saturday?

funny I have fished there for 4 years and have never seen the rocks, we stay at the park when we are there, we have revs, for the 6th of aug thru the 13th. maybe we will see some of the members at that time. We were at Wanapum Dam today just to check it out, lots of sockeye in the 2 to 5 lb range, also talked to the fish checker she said that the kings were starting to show , on that note she checked out a 42lb king, WOW...... we talked to several boats and counted about 9 kings up to 25lbs in the hour that we were there.

I wasn't there unfortunately. I was stuck at work listening to Northwest Wild Country and Bill Herzog went 12 for 12 on Friday when he was there and mentioned the water was the highest he'd ever seen it. Then they had the WDFW guy call in live from Brewster talking about 150 boats in the water by 8:00am. Per the fish checker most boats were limiting due to an estimated 50,000 sockeye in the Brewster pool.

Wanapum water is in the trees, along with the Columbia below Pateros.

Also I checked the fish ladder counts and 50K sockeye went above Wells in the last 3 days of counts.

Hey gang,

It looks like I'll be camping this weekend at Wanapum State Park. Oddly enough, I've never fished the columbia except for a few guided trips over the years, only duck hunting. Any sage advice for a guy with a dismal placement in the Edmonds Coho derby this past weekend?

PM is fine but looking to see if pulling my boat is worth it or not.

Thanks - Net.
