OK, so I have Wednesday off and am considering fishing the Snohomish. I noramlly launch at the town but I'm thinking (now that I mapped it out) of launching at the rotary park launch. Anything I need to know about this launch area as far as upstream boating hazards? The high tide is 11am which I'm figuring will be ideal to fish during the day.

Thanks!

Boating hazards are the least of your worries if you are going to launch there. I heard that the car break-ins are bad during the salmon run at Rotary. Hopefully, the launch/parking area will be so busy that the tweakers will stay away.

Steel, I believe that's the Skykomish you're talking about. The Snohomish is open from the mouth to the confluence of the Snoqualmie and Skykomish.

Hey Mike, long time no post for me. Been really busy as of late. As far as the Rotary Park launch is concerned make sure you have a high tide or at least a mid. Tried going there on the opener at around 8am and it was a stump covered sand bar for about 75 yards from the end of the launch. We ended up at Langus Riverfront Park but only one side of the launch was usable at low tide. It was a -1.3 ft. tide that day.

I launched on a low at Rotary Tuesday the 18th with my girlfriend and we just dragged my 10 ft boat across the sand bar. Saw one guy with a Toyota Tacoma back his cartopper to the water and a guy with an F-150 towing a 12' aluminum back accross the bar and into the water. I wasn't about to risk my new truck to tidal river sand.

As far as upriver hazards go it is pretty much the same as other tidal areas in a river there are some stumps here and there but just pay attention to breaks in the current and be especially careful when it is slack tide because the current breaks are harder to see. The biggest area to watch out for above Rotery is at the entrance to Ebey Slough tons of stumps and logs. Good areas to fish are the long sweeping bend just upriver from Rotary, just upriver from the entrance to Ebey (near the floatplane), and in Ebey Slough itself (not to far in from the entrance around the 1st corner there is a pump station of some sort). These have all been good areas in years past and have also been good the two times I have been out this year.
