Has anyone fished the Newakum River for steel. Is it open to fish?I was up there on Saturday for a job I measured and followed the Newakum river for a spell. Its such a beautiful stream.I saw no one fishing this gorgeous river. This lead me to believe that it might not be open. I was heading from Chehalis upstream to Morton. It was getting late so never made it to Morton. What a beautiful stream.I looked in the river reports and didnt see any.Does anyone here fish it?

What I am being told, the really good holes and areas to fish, are ones you need to get permission from the landowners. I don't know too much where to fish this river, but I am told worth the effort to fish it. I want to fish this river too. There isn't much written about this river, why is that?

jens is right most of the river is private and its hard to find any good holes to fish without getting permission, other than few small spots here and there that arent really worth a long drive for someone. I floated the river in a pontoon a couple years back and it was a nice easy float(i cant remember where we launched, but we pulled out by I-5) and i did manage a 12 pounder that day. a buddy of mine got permission from a landowner a couple weeks ago and he caught a native and lost another in just a couple hours.
