Northwest Fishing Reports

So I am totally ignorant about crappie ..... where can you catch them in King county, and how do you fish for them? If someone responds with in the mouth and a rod and reel .....

In the water.

With a crappie jig.

Usually its low tech, just bobber and worm will get most panfish as long as you get the bait to the depth the fish are holding at. Since the water is still relatively cold, you'll most likely find them close to shore in the water thats quicker to warm up around weedbeds or other structure. You can also do good with a lot of the Berkley Powerbait for panfish, like the Crappie nibbles, wax worms, pinched crawlers, crickets etc. If you are feeling more adventurous they can also be had on jigs with smaller versions of common soft plastics like tubes or grubs, and even some spoons or spinners if the fish are really aggressive. As to the where? Try looking in the Lakes filtered by county on the site's navigation bar at the top of the page.

Lake Washington is the sure winner for me. There are tons of 'em in there. Since you're in Kent, you would hit the south end and get them there. The fish in there seem to reach a nice size compared to other smaller lakes.

Sight fish them and throw a night crawler piece at 'em, and they'll gobble it right up. Crappie jigs work as well, put them under a float and twitch retrieve them slowly, that'll bring them in.

I used to catch nice sized crappie (12 inches +) on top water Rapalas while fishing for bass in both Trout Lake and Dolloff Lake.

Ive had good luck on rapalas,grubs,crickets/grasshoppers,worms,bread, and the best yet hotdogs. I dunno why but they just love hotdogs. I've cought them in lakes,rivers,ponds,stream,canals. Best bait being hotdogs on a little hook

I've caught them in Lake Sawyer and Lake Sammamish.

That map pointer is a couple miles off of where Larson is. Larson is actually a couple miles south on 148th (Behind the new Walmart).

Lets not forget one of my favorite lil lakes. Lake Tanwax .There used to be a large crappie population there if the WDFW didnt poison the lake like they do.

I too have snared crapie out of Dolloff, albeit many years ago.
