RE:lake website
Yep, thats what it has said for me also. No GPS here.
I went to the other site and checked one lake for a topo map and it showed the land but not the lake depths. Kind of pointless. I will stick with maps here...

RE:lake website
Well, I just saw this topic. A couple comments. First, the new website Aaron is in the process of coding will have the "missing piece", the Premium Membership. There's going to be several enhancements that we hope members will find useful and want to have. Our target date is Opening Day but if you visit us at the Big Horn Show you'll get a chance at a sneak peek, as well as some fun stuff we have planned. I'll post more details soon.
As to the site GPC mentioned. This is one of those generic "shell" sites that I find from time to time and cringe when I see. No heart, no soul, just a system in place. Give me a real site with real people any day. Over the years new lakes have been added to WL.com as readers submitted reports on them. This site has been literally built from the ground up by all of YOU. Not me, not Aaron, we just gave you all the tools. That's what makes WL.com special.
Finally, I have to admit to feeling a bit put out having what is basically a competing site promoted on this site. I'm not against the free flow of information, but it is - discouraging? If it was the owner of that site posting on this site I would have deleted the post in a heartbeat.

Can't wait for the new site and premium memberships...looking forward to all the coding that has gone into the final product...can't wait. And, I'd be the same way with other generic sites that don't have that "community" feel. WL.com fosters a growing member base that's enthusiastic, energetic, and knowledgable. Can't wait for the new site!

I know that's not how gpc meant it, and I think you know that too. It's not really a competitor, I (and I think most others) looked at it simply as a function like Google Earth. Just a way to find some local zipperlips.Mike wrote: Finally, I have to admit to feeling a bit put out having what is basically a competing site promoted on this site. P.S. It's only a test showing, um, well, that, um, WL.com can handle competition and not lose members to that shell site.

Don't even think about being discouraged. That site doesn't even come close to having the "heart" that WL.com has. There truly isn't a site on the web that can compare to this one. There is a heart beat in this group of people that can't be matched. So many people have contributed to the site in so many ways. We all have to agree, GPC has contributed a lot. I don't feel that he meant any harm. We have all made comments when later we think, "That was dumb"! Lord knows that I have done it! I once caught myself making a comment about Cabela's in one of the local sporting goods stores.Mike Carey wrote: Finally, I have to admit to feeling a bit put out having what is basically a competing site promoted on this site. RE:lake website
Isn't that the truth?! GPC, among others have been instrumental in the growth of WL.com. You can't compare any fishing site to WL.com...there is a community here of great people, and GPC was just putting some information out there...I wouldn't take it personally...we all know WashingtonLakes.com is the best site on the web!!Marc Martyn wrote: We have all made comments when later we think, "That was dumb"! RE:lake website
thanks for giving me the reality check everyone. I guess this is an area I'm a little sensitive about (that's an understatement!) No hard feelings to GPC, I know he was just spreading information and trying to be helpful. Just my own insecurity showing through.
RE:lake website
I didnt mean it like that. I guess I have to watch what I post from now on. Sorry Washingtonlakes.com
