From an e-mail I just got from the WDFW;

The co-managers have since agreed that recreational fisheries for trout and other game fish in Lakes Washington and Sammamish will not significantly affect coho salmon due to low encounter rates with salmon during those fisheries.

DUH!!!!!

I said that right from the beginning, so SOMEONE finally smartened up!

Action: Opens Lake Washington, the Lake Washington Ship Canal, and Lake Sammamish to fishing for trout and other game fish.

Effective dates: Sept. 1, 2016 through Oct. 31, 2016.

Species affected: Trout and other game fish.

Locations:

Other information: Statewide minimum size and daily limits are in effect.

Reasons for action: These areas had been closed under a co-manager agreement to protect coho salmon. DANG! Now I have to go fishing, instead of practicing driving the boat. [laugh]

I'm betting the Cast for Kids event will go back to its original format with taking the kids out on the lake for a fun time. If anyone is interested in volunteering, don't hesitate to give it a go.

I'd really like to know who was the voice of reason behind the re-opening and if anyone on the various city or county councils pressed the issue. To say I'm surprised is a huge understatement. [thumbsup]

fishing has been good on Lake WA since it reopened back on June 24. Lots of smallies each day that I've gone out. Rock bass seem to be swarming too.

Good to see that the WDFW has now announced that the lake will remain open thru Sept and October, instead of the scheduled closing that was in the rule book

There is also a nice cement fishing dock on nercer island at "Luther Burbank park"

If you google map it an zoom in you will see the very cool layout it has, you can do the shallow end for perch and sunfish and such, and the deep walkway takes you out to atleast 20ft deep where I supposed you could try several techniques to target different species! Hope this helps
