That should work well as bait. I used to use dead smelt when I was a kid.

Can I ask what you're doing with them? I always just caught them for fun when I was a kid, but I've heard they're not bad eating.

I have hear around the mouth of the slough is a really productive spot. I have no clue really though, I have never tried it.

That would be great if that place was very productive because I live a couple blocks away from the slough and am looking for a close place with lots of crayfish that doesnt need a boat to get to...

In the 70's the area around Rainier boat launch used to be good.

Well i jsut bought the pass for the launch for Kirkland as it is a couple of streets away from where i live. The slough i can imagine would be productive but my jet boat would suck up the weeds and what not. Why i dont launch at kenmore..also i reckon my pots would walk if i dropped them there. I plan on fishing for some perch maybe or stick close by and troll for some cutts.

The Sammamish river is really good. The slough,Montlake cut on either end. The log booms in Bothell,Madison Park,Yarrow Bay. East channell of Mercer Island and or the slough by Newport. Ive seen guys lay pots all over the lake. I make my own pots out of chicken wire and lower them off the docks while casting spoons. I usually get some. The water temp in the lake is still down.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Yes it's a horrible launch............ I'm not sure where this fixation and parranoia about launching there comes from, you sucked weeds at Newport Shores (more than once) and you keep going back there.

Now see, if you told me you were going we could have launched right in the very protected Kenmore launch gone out a couple hundred yards and dropped the pots and fished around the north end. #-o :) :) :)

The boat launch that I saw the other day was the East Mercer Island launch. Now that is a sweet launch. Restrooms,Fantastic parking and single cars parked in trailer spots get ticketed and or towed. Its totally protected with I-90 as a canopy.Thats gonna be my new launch. One drawback is it costs $11.00 for the launch.

Be advised that the launch is fairly shallow, gets very crowded as the weather improves and has a very limited amount of dock space. It is by far the best launch for when it is raining/snowing due to the overhead cover that the I-90 overpass provides. If you want to make it a bit more affordable, buy a season pass for $40!
