Does anyone love the manilla buttter clams from Costco? I could eat about 10 pounds of these things. What a culinary delight!

Never had them, I suppose you could bring them on our fishing trip. haha!

Did Costco actually label the clams as "Manila butter clams"? It's a mislabeling if they did, but then again it's probably not reasonable to expect the Costco seafood clerk to be able to tell the difference.

There are three different species in the local beaches, which are commonly sought after and which look similar to each other:

a) The butter clam (native to WA)--identifiable by non-crisscrossing lines on the white shell

b) The native littleneck (native to WA)--identifiable by criss-crossing lines on the white shell

c) The Manila clam (a littleneck that is non-native to WA, but have been established here probably since the early 20th century)--looks very similar to the native littleneck because it has the criss-crossing lines on the shell but will often have patches of brown color on the outside of the shell and a patch of purple color inside of the shell near the siphon

Most of the clams I see in the market are the mix of native and Manila clams in the same tray. Have not seen too many butter clams in the store.

All of them are DEE LEE CIOUS

Where I go some say manilla butter clams...Costco sells them at the cheapest and they are pre-purged; just the way I like them Yummy!

I can pick limits of them easily off my beach cabin...I'll bring some down for ya....It don't get any better then fresh...

Sam-K I'd love some if there isn't/was a "red-tide." This seems to be the problem everywhere I go to pick-up these clams. I wonder if the government just says there is a "red tide" just to make sure that we don't harvest any. I love baby manilla clams like I do a good burger.

SHOOT! Just got back from my cabin. Had some fresh clams last night and watched the NCAA games in the process of eating em...

Didn't even THINK to dig another limit today and bring em over....

Ahh, no worries. These NCAA games are sure fun to watch!

Make sure you don't eat some bad clams. Those have left me on the shitter for hours before. No joke!!!
