FYI-$10 Fine for not reporting crab catch record cards
Well folks, its official. It's been the rumor of internet forums for a few weeks, now it has been approved and a $10 penalty will be imposed on you, and you won't be allowed to get a new license unless you pay that fine.
Here's the newslink:

And here's a place you can submit your catch record card info ONLINE, quick and easy. Already completed mine:

RE:FYI-$10 Fine for not reporting crab catch record cards
So, what is the deal with this online reporting A9?? You just electronically "say" what and how many you caught?? Do you have to still send in your card??
I guess I'm trying to figure out if this online reporting is a good thing.....
Is it as accurate as CRC's in hard copy??
Why even bother to have CRC's if you just report them online?? Mark it up all year and then throw it away??
Don't get me wrong, I understand it is VERY important to establish harvest rates. Oh, well..I'll just send it in, and save the complaining for next year...

I have caught many fish in my life. The most exciting? The next one.....

It was basically entering your information from your catch record card onto an online format. Then, submit it. Was pretty easy, probably about as easy as addressing an envelope and sending it in.Rollin with Rolland wrote:So, what is the deal with this online reporting A9?? Complaining to the state is as helpful as tithes on a bull.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

I found the online report was easy. Like A9 said, you are basically just transfering your catch card info on to their form which also looks like a catch record card, then electronically submitting it. I like the online process.
So, as for the fine, I haven't read the info on the provided link as of yet. I take it you just get dinged the 10 bucks when you buy your next shellfish license? Or are they actually mailing out infractions? Just curious. I will read the info on the link.

Dave, here is the wording in the WDFW article...Sounds like you don't get a license if you don't pay the fine. How they deal with enforcing it, I don't know....Dave wrote: So, as for the fine, I haven't read the info on the provided link as of yet. WDFW Article wrote: Under the new rules, crabbers who fail to report their catch will be required to pay $10 before a license vendor will issue a new catch record card for the following Puget Sound crab season. According to WDFW, less than a third of the 200,000 people licensed to fish for Dungeness crab in Puget Sound reported their catch as required.

So if a 1/3 reported then 2/3 of 200000 is 133,333 ... with $10 infractions then that would bring in $1,333,330 of income. that is a substantial amout in the coffers.

'course they don't have biscuits and gravy ... but if they did, I bet everyone would eat there.
