Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?
This wolf was shot recently in Drayton Valley , Alberta which is near Edmonton about 3 hours North of Calgary. The wolf weighs over 230lbs smashing the previous record of 175lbs.

Bragging may not bring happiness, but no man having caught a large fish goes home through an alley.

I don't know about this. To much controversy follows this photo. Where, who, how big are both hunter and wolf. When stuff is controversial and unclear typically means there is something fishy going on. No doubt a big wolf, but 230. If the guys is only 5ft and 110 then a 140lb wolf would look similiar to this. Just saying. I have seen this pic before and heard all the arguements, if it was geniune no one would dispute it.

I'm with you on this one Marc. It just doesn't seem right. I wonder if the people riding shot gun in the plane are Alaska natives looking to reclaim lost moose or caribou.. or if they're wealthy weekend warriors from Kirkland.Marc Martyn wrote:9Mu_rqmFpL8
Not that I am all against hunting.. of course I "hunt" for fish. But this feels very different.

The first time I read through this topic I didn't stop and look at the video link Mark provided,The Quadfather wrote:I'm with you on this one Marc. It just doesn't seem right. I found it horrific and unjustified killing of these wolves via an "airplane"- UNBELEIVABLE! This is the lowest form of hunting!
As for the 200 plus pound wolf- tragic. If it is what it seems to be.
These hunters using planes are most likely from the "lower 48", I find this very upsetting!

RE:Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?
I feel that I should say that in no way am I trying to cast aspersions on Big D's original post. If it was taken that way, I apologize. That was not my intent. My feelings are that the wolf has gotten a bad wrap from the dawn of time. Myths have circulated the earth for thousands of years. These myths were spawned out of fear. They are by nature a predator, only out of survival. But, they are a magnificent creature.
In my opinion, it is one thing to kill out of self defense or for food. It is entirely different to hunt from the air for the thrill and to use a lame excuse that the wolf is threatening the caribou herds in Alaska. There are approximately 7,000-9,000 wolfs in Alaska. Within that same region there are approximately 750,000-900,000 caribou.

I think the picture itself looks fake. However, I have a 110lb German Shepard, and if the picture is real, that pup has to be close to 230
