My Most Embarrasing Moment (so far)
My buddies took me fishing in their new boat a few summers ago. They are considerably more experienced than I am, & this was my second time out in a boat, ever. We stopped off at a little island on Lake Roesiger to stretch & I caught a nice trout around the drop-off. I put the fish on one of those metal stringers, but neglected to bring it into the boat when we went to back to the boat-launch. The power of the boat ripped the stringer to pieces & I lost a nice fish!

I won't make that mistake again - stow before we go!

sweet thread!

so my most embarrassing fishing moment was actually late last summer. my buddy had just boat his new to him 15 ft skeeter. we went to launch it at coulon park at lake washington. i backed in his trailer for him while he is on the boat we unload the boat, so i went and parked his truck and trailer. came back and there was about 2 inches of water in the boat and he is freaking out lmao (im sure you guys know how many people launch there boats there so needless to say there was a line waiting) im like damn dude looks like you might have been screwed. he immedialtly calls the guy he boaught the boat from. which he says as far as he knows there isnt a single problem with the boat as he took it out the day before for a last minute test run. so he gets off the phone, and i ask him "dude is the plug in the boat?" turns out he didnt even check lol. so we pull out the boat and sure enough no plug so we popped it in a launched again. yeah i gave him crap all day lol.

Well, I don't know if this qualifies as an "Embarrasing" moment or not,, but I was certainly embarrased before my own self. Just three days ago thurs. I was trailering my boat from Bremerton to Sequim. I have an Eagle Fishmark 320 fish finder. This is not one of the portable FF's
but I refuse to drill into the transom, so I jerry rigged something. Ive got the transducer mounted on a piece of wood which is then both massively velcroed to the transom, and I use a C-clamp on the top side. I've got that sucker on there good. And yes, I probably should know to just take it off when trailering. However I didn't.... I got into SEquim about midnight, in the morning my brother says something like, "Dude,, what is that thing hanging off your boat?' I said it's a transducer.. He said, "Well does it work when it's buried int he dirt?" The thing had come off, and was dangling about 8 ft. off the back of the trailer. Flying in the wind for who knows how long.
The funniest thing was when I plugged back in on the lake I swear that it more dialed in than ever before. Works like a charm.
So, of course I now fully recommend the Eagle Fishmark 320.

the wife is looking at me with that look when i told her i was posting this. i tend to have alot of hooks out and about when i'm tieing up jigs and flies. this happen long ago when my oldest son was just starting to learn how to roll around on our carpeted floor, well we were sitting there watching tv and realized he was squirm'n but not moving, the wife went to pick him up an realized his head was attached to the rug with a fish hook, after the talking too i received i got my pliers and got him loose(good thing i had alot of practice on the fish i had been catch'n) the hook came out of both the carpet and my sons head easily and i still hear my wife talk of it as if it were yesterday to people we hardly know while fishing or camping. <')//<

Not really embarrassing, but not good either. I was camping with my cousins in Turtle Rock, which is by the Rouge River in Oregon. Well, I decided to go surf fishing with one of my dad's heavier rods. No problem. I baited my two hooks with chicken liver (one which was tied on the line five inches above the other) and cast out. I got skunked, decided to come back. I leaned my pole on the camper, and walked off. Now, who else finds chicken attractive? My cousin's dog, of course. He gobbles, gets hooked on one of the hooks, and after much whimpering we get him unhooked. Now.....calming down. Then my dad comes over and says, "Hey, T, weren't there two hooks on this thing?" Oh, crap. My cousins drive the dog to the animal hospital, and we frantically look for the hook, just in case. Fifteen minutes later, we find it, and tell them to come back. I didn't say much for the rest of the day.

My Most Embarrassing moment was about 6 years ago back in Nashville, TN .. i will never forget this morning , so i owned a ford bronco at the time and had a 16ft basstracker , im on the way too the lake and it's about 5am . i stop at the gas station and meet up with my bud there who was getting some food and water for the day .. so im so excited to get going i told him to just meet me at the boat lauch and ill head down to put the boat in ... well earlier that week my brake lights comes on in the truck so i new that i need to have my brakes looked at .. I had an appointment set up for that coming monday to do so .. so this sunday morning i drive down to launch , back up to the lake jump out and unhook my straps and preped the boat for launching ... I get back in the truck and back the boat in the water , once i got it where i want i press down on my brakes and MY FOOT WENT TO THE FLOOR .. (Holy Sh_t) the truck keeps coming back and in about 10 secounds half of the truck is in the lake ..i put the truck in drive and floored it right ! MY WHEELS ARE SPINNING LIKE CRAZY and yet im still going futher back in lake ... so now that im all the way in lake i jump out the window and started swimming toward the dock .. SO , my boat was still hooked to the front of the trailer and trailer still hooked to the truck .. so when my bud gets to the launch this is what he saw .. My BOAT about 100 yards from the launch with the back of my truck barly sticking up and me smiwwing back to dock .. he walks up to me after i get out of the water and said "why did you jump out boat is there a snake in there" ...i said no but if you look closer that small little part sticking up in front of the boat is MY TRUCK .. he falls down from laughing so hard .. so i started to laugh (to stop the tears from coming) ..after calling the tow truck and about 3 hours of tring to reteive the truck we finally got it out and they towed her away .... do you want to know what we did next ?? WE WENT FISHING ANYWAY ..lol i told myself i could just go home and stew in self pity or take it like man and keep my chin up ...I only caught one bass that day but thats what i needed to keep my sanity ....I STILL MISS MY TRUCK .. it was consired a total loss ..because its running i fryed my whole electrical system ..Dam!](*,) :pale:

Wow, with all the others I've read mine doesn't seem so bad!

This was just a couple of weeks ago. I was heading out fishing with my brother in law and we were launching the boat. I unstrapped it, loaded the gear in, checked and re-checked the transom plug and backed it up. The boat floated up and started drifting off. Right about then was when I noticed that my brother in law wasn't holding the rope! I guess I forgot to mention it, but I though it would be pretty obvious that you should grab onto a boat that is floating away. Anyway, it floated just out of reach and just sat there. No one else was around (5am) so he agreed to swim for it. Just before he jumped in we heard a truck coming....it was towing a boat! So I had to ask this guy if he could do me a favor and give me a lift out to the boat since it seemed that we had parked it out in the lake. I paid his launch fee to thank him and we were on our way. Never did ask him if he was on washingtonlakes.com... too embarrassed.

LOL Great thread! I think Dez's takes the cake so far tho. What kind of a truck was it? One of the other forums I frequent is a truck forum. I'd cry for you if it was a Silverado... LOL

I nailed my brother in the back of the head with a Rooster Tail while fishing a local lake a couple years ago. I couldn't figure out what I had stuck too so I kept pulling, that was the most profanity he had ever used in all of his 17 years at that point LMAO!! I let him out of the boat from the far end of the lake (about 1/4 mile) so he could walk/run the trail and I paddled back as fast I could. I had stuck the thing so far in we couldn't get it out, he went to the doc to get it pulled. It looked like it was intentionally in there, like some kind of punk piercing all pretty and orange and stuff...LOL!

By the time I got the boat landed he met me there and was laughing pretty hard, I guess he had forgiven me already...

Mine would have to be while fly fishing from my float tube on my favorite lake(island lake)the one in kitsap county. While picking thru my fly boxes enjoying the day on the lake. The little strap that holds the apron to the float tube wich happens to be between your legs became unbuckled and some how to this day I still can't figure out.I ended up out of my tube into the lake waders, flippers, fly boxes, the whole nine yards ended up in about 8 feet of water. It must of took me ten minutes to get back in the tube.I had about twenty onlookers. The only thing I lost that day besides some dignity was a ten dollar fly box and about thirty flies I spent a few solid hours tieing here and there. The most valueable lesson I learned that day was always and I mean always were your floation device no matter how funny you think you might look, atleast you live to to look funny another day.](*,)

Where do I begin? My brother-in-law getting his ear pierced by my spinnerbait when I was learning how to use a baitcaster? Reaching for a crawdad and sliding into the lake only to realize that it was a deep hole and my feet never touched bottom? Here are two better ones, and I swear they are true:

One night while I was sleeping, I reached over to my wife (ex-) and tried to pick her up by her lower lip. She bit down and I quickly yanked my hand away. She thought that episode was over and rolled over. A few minutes later, she felt my hand on the back of her neck and I was trying to hold her still while my other hand was trying to unhook her.

This next one has witnesses. I wouldn't mention the story if I didn't because there is no way I would believe it. We were night fishing for catfish with nightcrawlers on the bottom of a beach area adjacent to some lily pads. A fish hit and I slammed back the hook. Only it was not a catfish! This thing started running and peeling away my line. We heard several large and I mean LARGE splashes as the fish thrashed and fought. About ten minutes into the fight, it seemed as though my hawg gave up. I knew something was still there because I could feel the weight. As I got it to the shore, I reeled in a six-inch perch. It had been dead for sometime and was completely colorless. The hook was imbedded behind the gill plate. As best we can tell is that the mystery fish swallowed my nightcrawler and when I set the hook it grabbed his previous meal. In the course of the fight, I pulled the perch out of his gullet. By the way, I didn't keep the perch.

Ok here we go I was fishing on my friend's boat(new to boating) in the river in early winter so it was quite cold. We were fishing for Stripers and not getting any. It is prime time in the Striper season so there are many other boats around. We were anchored just in front of an old wooden dry dock that was now mostly submerged. He wanted to move into the middle of the dry dock so I said you should pull up the anchor he didn't agree and went ahead with the move. Of course I was in the front of the boat so as we moved forward go figure the anchor connects with the bottom of the dock, jerks the boat and in the water I go. I am wearing fleece pants and jeans. A short and long sleeve shirt with a fleece sweatshirt, hooded sweatshirt and a jacket. So I soak up the very cold water like a sponge. Well my memory is that I was not in the water very long and my friend said he has never seen anyone move that fast before. I shot out ofthe water like a rocket. So now I'm standing on the front of the boat dripping wet, swearing at my buddy and providing entertainment for all the others around. I said that is it I'm done we are leaving now. As he stands there and takes an earfull he continues to cast and bang he lands a striper. He asks you still want to leave? So I strip down to my boxers and manage to put together a full outfit with extra clothing that was onbaord. I can barely hold the rod because I'm shrivering so much but landing fish after fish helped me to ignore the cold. We landed about 60 fish between the two of us. A school of stripers were hearding baitfish into the drydock area so any direction you casted in was a fish in the boat. After all is said and done I would have jumped in the water on my own if I knew it would have brought on the fishing like that!!!

Not really embarrassing per se, but funny none the less. Was out fishing Swofford Pond, night fell and decided to fish an hour or so longer. Sitting in my chair minding my own business I start hearing a funny noise, look around didn't see anything right away, lots of shadows thrown by my lantern. Look to my left, nothing...look to my right and holy crap there it was! About 5 feet away, and within a span of 2.5 seconds I thought a cat had creeped up on me only to realize this particular cat had an extremely bushy tail for a cat, and was black with a couple white strips. SKUNK! Took me by surprise so bad, I fell out of my chair, tripped over my brand new rod. Gathered my wits about me, balanced myself on an arm of the chair and all I could see was that fat little skunk turn 180 and stick its tail straight up in the air. At that point all I could think was, "Oh, god...I'm gonna get sprayed!", "Don't spray, don't spray!". Fortunately, the skunk decided for whatever reason not to spray, and waddle back into the darkness in a hurried fashion. At the time it startled me pretty good, but giggled to myself afterward. I am sure the the only reason I got away without getting sprayed is the skunk was too busy laughing his butt off at me to think about spraying. :clown:

I was fishing Spencer Lake in the old Bass Tracker and was at the far end of the lake from the launch when the battery went dead. On this boat, one battery does it all - run the electric and start the outboard. Well, I did have a spare battery but somehow we couldn't get it to work either. I finally had to hail a shoreline resident and beg for a tow back to the launch. I was most grateful to the shoreline resident who wouldn't accept any gas money. On the other hand I have also towed a couple boats in with my Bass Tracker. I quickly replaced both batteries.
A nice bass is too valuable a resource to enjoy catching only once.

A few years back a partner and I were floating the Clark Fork river in his drift boat. Periodically we'd get out and thoroughly fish a good hole. At about midday, it warmed up enough that my partner and I decided to come out of our waders and wet wade.

At one of our "put outs" I happened to notice a big beaver about 75 yards downriver from us, lazily swimming the bank. I didn't pay him a whole lot of attention, after all, we see some on nearly every trip over there. I just got out and began casting, working downstream while my partner worked upstream.

About 50 yards downstream I located a good seam that had some rising fish. This prompted me to tie on a small dry pattern, a PMD I think. I positioned myself below this seam, facing upstream in knee deep water, and began casting. On about my third cast or so, I felt something wet and hairy pass between my legs and I looked down....AAAAAAAWWWWWWWW!!!!!

That doggone beaver is swimming right between my legs.....I kid you not!!! I freak out, throw my rod, scream like a girl, and despite being only 5' 6" tall, display a good 36" vertical leap!!! I crash back down into the water, lose my footing and end up on my a**. Reaction from the beaver? Absolutely nothing! He continued to swim lazily upstream, occasionally looking back at me as if to say "what's your problem?".

My partner comes running, asking if I'm OK. I tell him yes, point out the beaver, and tell him "that SOB just swam directly between my legs and scared the s*** out of me."

What a day. I'll NEVER, EVER forget that incident!
