A buddy of mine quit smoking in one month using Chantix. I was impressed with how easy it was for him. It might be something to consider.

For the people wanting to quit smoking. I smoked for 25 years. One day I got a blood clot in my lung (pulmonary embolism) . I was put in the resperation ward of the hospital. I quit the next day. Want a great scare and a reason to quit. Go visit that ward in a hospital. I watched people smoking from tubes in their chest cuz their whole throat was cut out. That scared the fricking Bejeezus out of me. I did the nicoderm patch and its now going on my 15 th year of no smoking.I might have put on a few pounds but now when I go places I dont smell like my ashtray used to smell.Good Luck to all in the comming year. God Bless you all.

I have seen death caused from smoking. Lost my father 4 years ago to throat cancer due to his smoking and yet I still haven't quit. I enjoy smoking but know if I want to live past 50 I need to quit. No male on my fathers side has lived past 53 years of age. My uncle is currently holding that age and he is still kicking but not is good health. So in the long run I jsut need to buck up and quit. I have done it before for 6 months and a few other times for shorter, jsut enjoy it and need to get my mind right in order to quit.
thanks for the help all

Good look and God Bless to you battling nicotine. Solidarity brothers. Fortunately that is not one of my vices. I quit drinking 6 years ago. Now I just need to get back in shape. Nicotine is a real SOB to quit I hear and wish you all the best.

Good luck to all youy smokers out there trying to quit. An addiction is tough to kick and nictodine is one of the toughest there is (as a nurse I've seen ALL the horror sides of the addiction, so my heart and good wishes go out to you all).
My resolution - live life to the fullest, be thankful for each day and keep the a-hole side of my personality in check.

Here is the thing I don't understand regarding smoking (not being one likely doesn't help at all). When my mother was in a rehab care center during the summer of 2004, recovering from a bunch of cancer related problems in I observed the following.
The nurses/care takers did nothing but complain. They complained to each other. They complained to the patients they cared for. They complained to the visitors that came to visit the patients. But the one I reallllly didn't get was this. Most of them when they took their breaks smoked like chimneys. Why? I can understand the comment that smoking helps me relieve the job stress I have. I commented once that I didn't appreciate the nurses attitude he or she had regarding the patients, and if they didn't like the job to go out and find another job. Said individual complained about how some patient puked on him/her, and another one demanded a blanket, and somebody else (I zoned out thinking whatever). But the point I have is this. Here you are a nurse. You have the educational background. You know what cigarettes do to you. You see first hand as a nurse/care person what is going to happen to you.... why are you still smoking?
My mother would pass away in December of 2004.
Granted instead of smoking my problem is eating sugary and or salty high carbohydrate foods. Hence my resolution for the 8 jillionth time it seems. To exercises more and eat less "comfort foods". Actually I can kind of answer my own question.... "you know what you need to do, you know how to do it... but its easier to succumb to the addiction than it is to fight it...."

Can I borrow that resolution Mike?

OMG Matt, I can't wait to weed through the idiots to get to the humpies. I love that fishery!!!!! Actually I don't think I encountered one idiot last humpy season and I fished the heck out of the shipwreck. 64 salmon were harvested from my boat in 3 short weeks fishin 4 times a week. It was the best season I can remember. I can’t wait for it’s return!!!
On the topic of smoking and how devastating it is on it's victims and loved ones; My mom was diagnosed in 2005 with lung cancer, directly related to smoking her entire life. In 5 short months she withered away to nothing and was dead. My brother who also smokes watched my mom go through this ordeal and today he still smokes like a chimney. Unfortunately the tobacco makers put a boatload of poisons and chemicals in these cigarettes which keep the user coming back for more even though they know that eventually it will kill them. I feel for anyone who smokes and wants to quit because I know how difficult it is to kick the habit. Because smoking is the number one killer in the United States I would love to see everyone quit and be around for their loved ones and themselves. Life is too short and smoking and obesity kill millions before their time. I was very surprised how well Chantix worked for my buddy. He quit in a month like it was nothin and I’m very proud of him! Best of luck to all of you who are on a quest to quit smoking or lose weight.

Fish Bait !!! The Satsop is kicking out big silvers . It may even be closed any day now for silvers. The last I heard from my friend w/ property up there said 14-16 lbrs. are not uncommon. I only got a few silvers this year up there but they are nice.
