Re: Nooksack River Fishing 2017
Hit Ferndale last night for a few hours, significantly less rollers coming by and not a single bite or fish landed while I was there. Water clarity is at about a foot and will get worse this weekend through the heat... Probably going to give the river a break until it clears up. Tight lines, and hop...

Re: Breaking news: OPEN SEASON on Atlantic Salmon - is this real!?!?
Looks like the Lummi tribe is really milking this "State of Emergency" for all they can get. They are selling the Atlantics for 1.25/pound to KMB Seafood and Finkbonner Shellfish. According to this article, they have netted over 200,000 pounds of Atlantic salmon alone almost only over the weekend. T...

Re: Breaking news: OPEN SEASON on Atlantic Salmon - is this real!?!?
If anyone is able to find them from shore that would be helpful to know as well. Tribes are reporting this morning netting some in the Nooksack and the Skagit. Keep your eye out for them if you are chasing pinks around here.

Re: Breaking news: OPEN SEASON on Atlantic Salmon - is this real!?!?
It sounds like the actual escapement numbers are close to the entire amount of fish that were in the pens...more like 300k, not 4-5k.

Artist's point would be a really good destination for a hike and view, but you could also catch a few alpine brook trout in an alpine lake. The Bagley lakes are a short walk and hide a couple decent brookies, just throw a really small spinner or a fly.

Re: Nooksack River Fishing 2017
By afternoon yesterday it was down to a solid inch or two of visibility. Just about as bad as it can get for this time of year. Early in the morning wasn't half bad though, that is the only time I've seen a couple fish caught.

Re: Nooksack River Fishing 2017
I was at Hovander from about 7-dark. Saw quite a few rises as well, and one guy hook up with a good sized bright pink that got air a couple times.

Re: Nooksack River Fishing 2017
Yesterday morning fished all the way down just upriver from the Marine Rd bridge, and ended up seeing quite a few netted. Natives were flying past us not minding our lines in the water, but they bonked some good sized humpies. Tried plunking some dick nites and throwing a blue fox but no bites for u...

Re: Nooksack River Fishing 2017
Maybe a little early to start the thread, seeing it will probably be a really late season for the river too. The river is in poor shape and it's getting trashed beyond belief. I saw a table floating down when I was there. Nonetheless, I am going to Hovander this afternoon. It feels like a good day t...

Very true, but all of this dry weather is making me impatient. I can't see any rain in the forecast either. I will post back if I catch anything!

If you aren't sitting in your boat when you cast, of course you can use it to find better shore access.

Nooksack River Fishing 2017
Thought I would start a thread on the Nooksack for the salmon season, as it is somehow one of the only nearby rivers that will have one legal to fish. [blink] I am going to the Hovander river access tomorrow to see if any humpies are around, I know there aren't many in the system yet though. I did s...

Re: Olympic Peninsula
We did have some good luck surf perch fishing from the beach, I did a little report on it a while back. Highlight of the trip was probably the fish tacos. Other than that, it was fly fishing the nearby creeks and caught a few nice cutthroat.

Re: Deming Wa / BNSF project Nooksack river
last time I took my Jeep through there we found a duck de-headed with its head stuck onto a stick in the ground. Used to be a decent amount of garbage and crap back there too, so maybe it's a good thing they are cleaning it up.

Re: Deming Wa / BNSF project Nooksack river
That was one of my favorite spots as well. I have in the past talked to an older guy down there who told me what areas of the river bank you aren't suppose to drive on, since they are spawning grounds for salmon. He also said someone writes up fat tickets for those who do [blink] . I certainly hope ...

Re: Jetty fishing ocean shores
Have to agree with that one too, I rarely get a chance to fish for rockfish since most marina areas on our coast protect them. Last time I did find some from shore at a good spot north of where you are going, and the jighead and double tailed grub outfished every other bait I tried. I have my rockfi...
