Re: Where are the Baker Lake Sockeye?

Yeah, I don't think there's any way the tribes have netted 20,000 plus sockeye this year.

Re: Where are the Baker Lake Sockeye?

Wow, trap numbers have really dropped off. I wonder how long it will be until the downgrade their forecast of 47,000 fish?

Re: Im cursed with Springer fishing....

I'm glad I took some advice, went up to the river late yesterday and finally, finally landed a nice native king before the sun set, finding out that my lami isn't up to par with that fishery either, lost a really nice fish just shy of 20lbs at the shore... I was talking to a guy down there plunking...

Re: Deming Wa / BNSF project Nooksack river

Hmmm, last time I was there I found two parking areas, one behind the bus barn and one further upstream maybe 1/2 mile. Where exactly is this project?

Re: Skagit Sockeye!

look at the photo of the hatchery count vs the wdfw actual transfer count.... 233 fish off....? What are you trying to compare? The hatchery report has brood stock collected to date as of the cutoff date of their report (who know's when on the 11th this was finalized). The other has total fish trap...

Re: Skagit Sockeye!

I'm not going to get worked up about the lake Cushman transfer - it is a tiny amount of fish needed for their brood stock, and if it leads to a sport fishery in Lake Cushman that might help take pressure off of Baker Lake. All I'm saying is that the returns to the trap are much lower than the past c...

Re: Northern Pike fishing in some western Wa lakes

I think Tiger Muskies are as close as you are going to get and that is as it should be. Other warm-water introductions have already had a negative impact on native fish populations and there is no way to stop the spread of these fish once you introduce them. It would be horribly ironic if you introd...

Re: Skagit Sockeye!

season extended to the 21st.... Any reports to share?? Last weekend was slower than the previous weekend, and slower than it should be this far in to the season. Saturday I saw 1 fish caught for maybe every 5 or 6 anglers (but clustered among a few spots), Sunday was even slower when I was expectin...

I agree but - not the red hooks. They bend easier. Nickel or black finish only. Size 2 to 1/0.

Re: Where are the Baker Lake Sockeye?

Nope, the netting day was changed to the 5th - it already passed. Looks like the numbers are steadily picking up - 645 fish yesterday - should be over 1,000 per day by Sunday. It will be a slow opener tomorrow with only 1,000 fish in the lake, but I'm confident things are moving in the right directi...

Re: Planning A Salmon Trip

To clarify, there is no scheduled opening for salmon on the Skagit this fall. The river closes on July 16 and doesn't reopen until December. No coho or pink fishing, period.

Re: Skagit Sockeye!

Numbers on the skagit are not looking that great as of now of course that could change any moment but on contrary lake washington seems to be doing ok. Hope that keeps up and gets better as we could get a fishery there! Keep them fingers crossed I've definitely seen more fish caught this year than ...

Missing Camper at Baker Lake

A reminder to us all to be careful up there. I know we lost a fisherman up there last year as well.

Re: Skagit Sockeye!

I'll give a report here since I didn't actually fish. I knew I couldn't go early since I didn't bother to pick up any sand shrimp the day before. Went to the train bridge around 7:30 to check it out and spoke with a friend who said nothing had been caught there yet. Hung around and watched for 30 mi...

2017 Salmon Seasons

Not final yet, as far as I can tell, but the proposed seasons are here: http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/northfalcon/ As expected, the Skagit and Stilly are closed for Coho and Pinks, but otherwise the river situation looks to be pretty normal. Hopefully the regulations are finalized before the June 11 pr...
