Re: Crappie Fishing in Snohomish County

I'm quite a bit south of you, but the combustion engine ok lakes Ive caught crappie in down here are Lake Washington. Lake Sammamish and Lake Sawyer. I hear Lake Washington has some monsters, but the little 8-10 inch Lake Sawyer crappie have been on fire in the evening lately.

Re: location info

Hey Aaron, Just a quick jab here to check on this again. Any update? Or still way down the priority list? If the locations tab brought you to an index of lakes, which upon selection would bring you to a page like this http://www.northwestfishingreports.com/Area/Details/7683 (Currently available from...

Re: Baitcaster vs. Spinning Gear

+1.... grew up with spinning gear. Baitcasting has been so difficult for me, Ive all but given up. I have been able to stop my line with my spinning rod by hand very accurately for quite some time now, but still wish I could bait cast more comfortably. I would imagine that most backcountry and canoe...

Re: Panfish Jig Fishing

Ive been jig fishing a lot lately. Trout, crappie, bluegill and bass. Casting a jig or tube with a 1/32 jig head seems to be the best for me. Hook size is small on most 1/32 oz heads, but bigger hooks can be found in that weight. That ultra slow sink rate allows for a very slow retrieve, and a very ...

Re: Super fast small trout boneless filets

I'll try filleting and weighing both ways this time to see how much meat % im wasting. Ive bled my fish and thrown them in the fridge, but still haven't cleaned them from yesterday.

Re: How to target the holdovers?

Trolled our hearts out. Got to the derby at about 4. Only holdovers we found were less than 2 lbs. After we entered them in the derby, we saw several 2 plus pound fish weighed. Oh well. We're waiting for the prizes at noon. Will report back later... Didn't bait fish at all. Didn't cast and receive a...

Re: Super fast small trout boneless filets

Lake Meridian this time. Was trying holdover targeting methods in all of the similarly sized nearby lakes I could this last week. Only two larger fish I caught all week came from Morton at 15", Could have been larger stockers or holdovers? Oh well, we're on our way to the Lake Wilderness derby Now! ...

Super fast small trout boneless filets

Filleting small trout has been a pain for me. The trout is not exactly my favorite fish to eat and I have been spending far too much time trying to not waste anything. They all end up in the smoker a few times a year, and the biggest annual trout effort for my household is just about to happen. For ...

Re: How to target the holdovers?

Lots of sculpins in the rocky areas of this lake. Also, last year was the first year Ive heard of (trapped some) invasive northern "virile" crawfish in the lake. Could be a ton by now. This stream fed lake also has a fair amount of largemouth bass, pumpkinseed sunfish and a few wild cutthroat trout....

Re: How to target the holdovers?

If I was targeting holdovers, I think trolling 3in crankbaits that'll get down to 12 to 15ft range for the deeper parts of the lake or jointed rapalas in water less then 10ft would be my 1st choice. Sandshrimp smelly or krill smelly jelly will get those plugs smacked a lot more. Also if you see lar...

Re: How to target the holdovers?

I spent a few hours trying to test selective holdover catching theories on lake morton yesterday. I verified with some local lake front homeowners that there were definitely holdovers in the lake before the recent stocking. I did some dropshotting, jigging, trolling and bait soaking. I couldnt keep ...

Re: How to target the holdovers?

I found a full container of radioactive looking cracked out worms at a boat launch a few years ago. They were definitely more active, but didn't seem very bright.

Sure is a lot easier than soldering all these wires, hearing aid batteries and led bulbs to these nightcrawlers! Lol!

Re: How to target the holdovers?

Thanks for the idea, i have noticed that the freshly stocked trout seem to avoid the nightcrawler. This might be a good tactic to finding some more experienced, older fish. I'l give it a test run this week on another local recently stocked lake. Hopefully there are some holdover trout in lake 12 to ...

Re: How to target the holdovers?

Thought I would post a little more here hoping to spur some interest. Only a week left! Over the years, my biggest fish have come from powerbait fishing the bottom, from a boat. Near a steep drop that has a shallow bluff on one side and the deepest hole on the other. Last year we trolled plugs and s...

How to target the holdovers?

This month on the 27th is the annual Lake Wilderness trout derby, also opening for many western washington lakes. My daughters, wife and I have competed in this derby for many years, kind of a family tradition. We have trolled some years and powerbait fished others.... actually did better the years ...
