Here's a knot that is claiming to be a new knot..... Seems to me, dad used to tie this when putting tippets to main line when fly fishing. Any thoughts?

The knot tying starts at 5 minutes into the video.

Yup. Used that when I was learning to fly ties or tie flies or whatever. About 50 years ago, so if that's new, I'm young!

LOL Yeah that would be about the right time frame.... about 40 years... This knot is experiencing a resurgence in offshore mono to braid applications. it's so easy... loop, through, 5 wraps up, 5 down, through, snug and jerk. Tied in less than a minute!

Just a version of the modified albright knot. Most of the time you wrap 8 or more times going up and a few to equal number of times coming back down. In any case the knot works like a champ and I've been using it for all my braid to mono/fluoro connections for a few years know.

I learned this knot years ago--well decades ago. I like it for joining mono or fluorocarbon of disparate sizes. It's a great knot.

Old but good knot. Most new knots are either forgotten knots or simply modifications to existing knots.

I love how small it is, but it is no where near 100% strength. Nevertheless, most of the time we don't need 100%.

I have created my own knot to do this, actually a lot smaller in size, but it takes three hands to tie, takes more time, and is a modification of another know. IT IS 100% strong. I use it only when I must have 100% strength and have not bothered to teach it to but a couple of people. If pressed on which knot is better, the old but good, or my new modified, ......... I would suggest the old but good that is so easy to tie. :-"
