Chehalis River

Post by FlyGirl » Mon Sep 09, 2013 12:31 pm

Hey All~

With everyone fishing for salmon, I miss the trout conversations!!!
So, I am thinking of taking a weekend trip for my birthday down to the Chehalis mid October, looks like it is open till Oct. 31st. I have never fished it before, and will be targeting trout. Going to be down past the Rainbow Falls State Park area. Any thoughts on what works down there? Any good trout fishing there? Throwing a fly line and a spin reel.
Thanks in advance!

mepps aglias in size 0 in gold, copper and silver are what i mostly use on the east fork satsop but do well with small red/white, pink/white and orange/white spoons. muddler minnows are my top fly that anyone else still alive probably knows about.

brass and silver indianna spinners with a crawdad on 'em. Nightcrawlers work too. I grew up out there and that's what we used. Roostertails work well too, but they are a pain to get them to spin sometimes. Don't forget a castmaster, they like those. I'm a big fan of the small Joe's Flies Indiana blade spinners. You have to cut the short strike hook off when you're fishing in the streams, but they are killer.

As for flies, twitch something buggy through the faster riffles. Small streamers and nymphs in natural patterns. Same stuff I use for steelhead. There are trout up there and they are a lot of fun!

forgot about the indianna spinners. besides crawdad and nightcrawlers, we would put a fillet of sculpin on it. caught steelhead on those too.
have the same issues with roostertails and the joes flies have done well in lakes for me.
