Berkely Gulp dough bait

Post by GeryG » Wed May 16, 2007 8:45 pm

Well I'm glad were getting up to date, on fishing web pages in this state. Ive been posting on fishsniffer in California for a couple years now, we needed some site for trout. This web site looks worth switching, I didnt like that pictorial site. Any ways I bought some of that Gulp dough bait. Lots of bites but doesnt stay on the hook to well. Worth picking up a jar, I think. I bought the green, I think I'll pick up a jar of orange. This stuff is expensive.
Next time out, I will use less while trolling. Fishing wasnt to bad today. I'll give it another try tomorrow.8-[

GeryG -
Just wondering - when you used the Gulp Dough Bait, did you happen to use a dough hook ? You know the treble style hook with the wire looping - you can get them pretty small in hook size - I have used them on several occassions due to currents, etc. and seem to work out pretty well for the most part. Never have used them trolling.

How does the consistency of the Gulp Dough Bait compare to Berkley Dough Bait ? Is it heavier or lighter ?

Well I went down and picked up a orange jar of Gulp, to try on a lake that likes that color.
Cost $5.99 I hope Walmart gets some. That will be cheaper than a sports store. No I dont use
treble hooks, that would make a big difference. I use it on home made flys, that I add to my home
made wedding rings. It seems fluffier than Power bait. I used the orange today with success. 20 plus fish.
But I switched to my cheaper brand :-# which I used mostly. I had at least 80 bites today, guy could go broke
using gulp, and paying for gas to get to the lake. Took $ 80.00 to fill my truck up.](*,)
I'll save the Gulp for those tough days.

I guess it just goes to show - More expensive is not always better - especially on hot-hitting days. It is quite easy to go through 1/2 jar of Berkley PB in one outing. I think I will try the Gulp eventually, but for the most part as yourself I will stay with the less expensive. Put the extra towards gassin' up the rig.

Yeah theres nothing worse than only having 1/2 a jar and using that half out in the woods and having to pay $6 a jar at the neerest gas station especially when you know it only costs $3 anywhere else. What makes this worse is when it happens it seems that only the color your out of is the color that is catching fish. Powerbait is on sale at JOES right now $2.27 a jar. STOCK UP

I've been using the Gulp eggs lately and they seem to come packed with more scent then the standard powereggs i've used before. I dont remember if they float as well, or at all, but I have caught more fish when using the gulp products, except when compared to these new "honey worms" from berkley.

Dont use very much if any powerbait for trolling....Fish don't take their time to hit a lure, they just go up and smack it, and they can't get to the hook if the hook is covered by powerbait...I'd just use a scent in that case...Powerbait makes a good one....

I just saw the GULP! powebait for the first time the other day. They have the marshmellow and cheese flavor. I dont fish much with mallows and have never raelly fished with chese. But I know these flavors are some of the best, now that they have a powerbait designed for these two flavor...... uh oh. Its not like a Zekes or a Mikes brand powerbait either its Berkely. Not saying that zekes or mikes isnt productive but not as productive as berkely

But that stuff isnt cheap
