Lake Margaret Opening Day Fishing

I've found Lake Margaret to be an amazing opening day fishery. This lake is best fished with a whole worm and split shot sinker trolled at around 1.5mph. However, for catch and release purposes I use the frog colored needlefish and just hammered them again on the 2007 opener. I caught and released around 30 trout, some being hold-overs to around 14-15." I recently visited this lake and caught nothing. It has developed a mill foil like substance and the fishing is now poor. However, for opening day and taking the kids out for a day of fun, you can't beat this lake. I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same experience here? I've done the same at Lake Alice in Fall City, but that's quite a drive with gas hovering around $3.50 a gallon. Good luck all!

Rutt, my father and I had the same experience. We were there on opening day in our float tubes and caught and released about that number as well. None of the fish were of any great size, but they were plentiful and fun to catch. We took them on Roster Tails and Blue Fox spinners fished just below the surface.

Any lake on opening day is pretty hot fishing....Trolling right around the surface....Sometimes lakes just shut off when the lake gets too warm and the milfoil starts to take over again...
