Johnny's is a good go-to seasoning for almost everything. I really like the McCormick's Montreal Steak Seasoning for steaks, burgers (beef or turkey), and pork chops. I frequently make a lot of my own custom mixes too that have a little of this and little of that and almost always a lot of garlic.

Good topic... my favorite dry seasoning mix would have to be,
http://www.tonychachere.com/ it's sort of a cajun seasoning.:chef:
on another topic.... my vice in life is hot sauces. Not looking for the hottest one, but just some really great tasting sauces. No hi-jack here, I'll bring that one in later.

Garlic salt and jonnys are the best. Lawrys also makes a good seasoning salt.
Bodofish, they do make a Jonnys that is MSG free. I don't know where we got it, but I cant taste the difference between the MSG and the MSG free
Quadfather, next time you pass the fruit and antique mall in Thorp you have to get a bottle of the Peach, walla walla sweet onion and jalapeno hot sauce. It doesn't sound like the flavors would mix, but its awesome

It's not the taste it's a reaction to the msg. major headaches.

I'll second Tony Chachere's Original Creole seasoning. Fantastic on chicken and pork and has just enough bite for my family and it's MSG free to boot! I'll use it to season the flour I use on fish or when I make a batter in which to fry them. It's tough to find, QFC carries it most other supermarkets don't.
However for steaks on the grill it's a light coat of EVOO then crust with salt, fresh ground pepper and granulated garlic.
My standard for fish is similar, coat with EVOO then lightly sprinkle with salt, fresh ground pepper, granulated garlic and plenty of dill. Lemon pepper is good also and I'll use it to add variety to the dishes.
Rosemary, cumin and paprika also find there way into the seasonings I use in the kitchen. I tend to use them more with pork dishes and brines.

I don't have much a of a fav, I like old bay, johny's and mcCormick as well. Don't think I haven't tried one that I didn't like yet.
I tryed some adobo seasoning on a salmon steak last night and that was pretty damn good.

I pretty much use Johnny's, but was turned onto McCormicks several years ago. I have both now. Costco has them priced very reasonable. I will use the rub of Johnny's or McCormicks and baste with salted butter with a little bit of brown sugar and pepper.

I might use Johnny's but I have found that the dry brine I use for fish is very good as a seasoning for other things. My fav is putting it in meat loaf.

I'm glad this topic came up. I've used Johnny's for ever but recently realized just how much salt was in it. I also use Alpine Touch which is great on fish but the container of it that I have also has salt. During my weight loss (as of yesterday 150 pounds gone) I have tried to stay away from salt but use the Johnny's in my ground turkey and on my chicken breasts which are two staples in my diet, and I believe this has caused me to retain water. So I stopped using the Johnny's and have bought several small bottles of Mrs. Dash seasonings as they are salt free. They aren't Johnny's but they make the ground turkey taste better than if there was no seasonings added, but it's still not great compared to Johnny's.
So my question to all of you is; do any of you have a suggestion for salt free seasonings like Mrs. Dash? Thanks in advance.
BTW Quad, I have two favorite hot sauces. Crystal Louisiana Hot Sauce which is used by Emeril Lagasse, and the other is the Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce. It's the one with the rooster on the bottle. Hot, and very good.
You can find both of these hot sauces at Walmart for around 2 bucks.

Dave......Srirachas!! I keep a large bottle at all times in my fridge, I keep a second one at work with me.. and I sometimes take it with me at lunch just in case the place I'm going doesn't have it.

I"ll keep my eyes peeled for no salt seasoning.

So my question to all of you is]
Dave,
My Sister in law bought us this Trader Joe's "21 Seasoning Salute" that is salt free. I at first thought it'd be a flop, but it is actually pretty good and I will use it on chicken and white-meat fish often. I have a hard time believing it's salt free and I am a shaker short of being a salt-a-holic.

Chris, That's too funny. I should have known. Man that's some great hot sauce! And cheap if you buy it at Walmart. I've seen it at Haggen for 5.99 and the same bottle at Walmart for like 1.49. Crazy!

Bentrod, Thanks for the info on Trader Joe's 21 Seasoning Salute. I will get some of that next time I am in Everett. Much appreciated. I'm making up some turkey burgers today (about 12 - 8 oz burgers) and am going to put some of Mrs. Dash's seasonings in it. I bought two new bottles of Mrs. Dash for meat and chicken, so hopefully it will make the turkey burger taste a little more lime beef. Johnny's and a little BBQ sauce make turkey burgers great. I just need to find a seasoning that can take the place of the Johnny's, and I have stopped using the BBQ sauce because it has lots of salt in it, not to mention some sugar which I can do without. Anyway, thanks for the info.
