Area 8-1 and 8-2 winter crabbing

Post by Dave » Fri Nov 23, 2007 3:48 pm

Just curious to know if anyone went crabbing in area 8-1 or 8-2 over the Thanksgiving holiday and how did you do? I was out there; it was sunny and very cold (30 degrees F). My report is in the 8-1 saltwater section. Happy Holidays everyone. Good fishin.

Area 9 was red hot for me. Limits 3 straight days for me and my dad with only two pots, doing one pull a day...

We didn't fish. There were several out there fishing though. Our plan was to have our limits in an hour hoping that Tulalip Tribes had not been there before us. That was wishful thinking. They had been out crabbing for 3 weeks prior to the 4 saw winter season so getting the 12 total was not without lots of work which took 3 hours. I am just use to one pull after a 1 hour soak, and the pots are full. Since the tribes started crabbing before each sport season, it has been anything but great crabbing. At least before when crabbing opened to everyone at the same time, crabbing was great and everyone had a fair shot at limits which were easy to obtain. That has all changed now so it's frustrating to be subject to the "leftovers" from the tribes. I would love to have been able to leave our pots unattended all day but I have had pots stolen twice before so I don't leave them unattended any more. So, we didn't fish this time out and we left with 12 total. Thanksgiving dinner was great and so was the time off from work.
