Reel for my float rod

i just bought a 10'9" berkeley im8 to use for bobber & jig and also free drifting eggs. i was looking at getting an Okuma Trio 40S to put on it but i've never fished with one. just curious how the drag is on'em and how well they hold up.

Congrats on the IM8. I just got an 8-6 and love it!!! I am totally biased. I know nothing about the Okuma reels. All my rods are set up with Curado 200e7's. I know Okuma has come leaps and bounds in the last few years but its hard to beat the reliabilty and ease of casting that the Curado offer. I guess you did'nt say if it's casting or spinning? Casting is all I use.

it's a spinning rod, i got it for chucking light weights. i've got a 10' cp with a 250 calcutta for float fishing bigger weights or water.

That Okuma looks like a nice reel for the job. I've been very happy with my Shimano spinners. But the Quantum rigs are aweful nice too. I think you're on a mission! Better go finger them all!!!!!!!
I think the biggerst consideration is weight on the rod for balance and total drag. The drag figure is sometimes hard to find. If you want to catch a 20# fish you will want 10 or 12 # of drag. You don't need to be able to lift the fish out of the water but you do need to be able to control it.
PS I'm looking at a Shimano CI4 in the 3000 size for mine. I leave the the liturature for the high end salt rigs out on the coffee table..... You know the $700 to $1500 ones.... Then my other half doesn't even flinch when I buy the one I really want.

Very sneaky Bodo! Very sneaky. I'll remember that one if I ever break down and get another war department.
I use size 4 spinners on my 10'+ float rods. Not that I need the extra line capacity but to help balance the outfit better.

Hehehehe yep and I picked up my CI4 3000 on the way home from the Cow.......
