I'm not sure what you paid for this reel, but back in the day, I would refuse to pay extra money for the higher priced reels. I caught lots of fish on them and they seemed as you said here, nice and tight and smooth. At first. What typically happens to the lower priced reels is that they loosen up after limited use, then start having trouble with things like the bail not wanting to flip over, slop showing up in the handle, grinding in the bearings, and issues related to the back winding features. I'm not saying this reel will fail you, and like I said, I don't know what you paid for it. I'm just relating my past experience. Good luck with the reel and let us know how it works out. It's always nice to save a buck if quality is not compromised.
