Camano Island beaches

Post by JoshH » Wed Sep 30, 2015 9:23 pm

I've lived on the island for 13 years, but I have always done my fishing from shore off of the Whidbey beaches. Saturday though I've got people flying in for the weekend, but I hate passing up one of the last weekend opportunities to go after Coho before they all hit the rivers. I have just a few hours early in the morning to try and fish, so that eliminates the drive to Whidbey. The state park and a few other beaches are minutes from my house. I dinked around for an hour and a half at the state park last Sunday before the Hawks game. Saw 2 other fishermen there. I got nothing and didn't see them get into anything either. Seemed awful shallow for quite a ways out.

I hear whispers and rumor here and there of people catching them off Camano beaches, but nothing I can ever pin down. I was thinking of just running down to Cavelero Park. I've been down there before during a flood tide and have seen schools of cuts swimming close to shore. Figure if the cuts run that close there, possibly the Coho might as well.

Not expecting anything, but was wondering if anyone here has ever fished any of the Camano beaches for salmon with any success?

hey Joshh, I would hit cavelaro(spelling). Last pink season I lived out there(1 mile from cavelaro launch) I would launch my boat there and on several occasions saw people catching both pinks and coho. Also, if you can find a way to hike down at the end tip of camano that is a good spot. I always got there by boat.

Down around Tillicum beach? I know there is a very small public launch/area there.

Not sure where Tillicum beach is. For easiest access I would say cavelaro, but where I saw and caught the most numbers in the past was right at the south tip of island. The area on the east side of island where there are lots of boats tied up to buoys(this may be tilicum beach) holds lots of fish also but would not fish well from shore.

Tillicum beach is the road across from Dalman Drive. Last east/west road on the south tip of the island. you go down and there is a little public beach that is not advertised as such. locals park there row boats on it too.

I did try Cavalero this morning for only about an hour. Tide was coming in, but I dont think in was in enough when I was down there. I was snagging rocks on the bottom quite a ways out. I didnt have the time to wait for the tide to fully come in as I had my son in law arriving this morning. One hopefull sign at least was there was a seal patrolling about 60 yards from shore for a bit. Figure he wouldnt be there unless something comes through that area.

There is a boat ramp on the south tip of Livingston bay that will give you access to the beach. I've fished for Coho's from the water side casting towards the beach, they kind of mill around the bay before hitting the river. You're right across from the mouth of the Stilly. Then you could also access the beach from Fox Trot road, it's right across the street from Camano Marine.
