I just recently started tying my own worm harnesses. Here is the price to do so.

3' trielene 8lb XS $.02

(2) sz. 2 Gami hooks $.48

(10) 4mm beads $.13

Clevis $.12

Blade $.16


total = $ .91

So for quality line and the best hooks on the market you can tie your own for about a 1/3 of what they cost in the store. And who knows what line and hooks they use. Also if you take away one of the hooks you have a wedding ring for $.67, I have been tying those for years so I am not quite sure what the going rate is on those things, but I know they arnt that cheap.

Here are some numbers that might come as a surprise to some

Worm (when bought by the dozen) $.20

1oz bottom bouncer $.60

Swivel $.07


total = $.87

So when trolling for walleye your worm, weight and swivel are just about as much as the actual lure. And if you are using a bottom walker expect the price of weight, worm and swivel to jump WAY higher than the lure. Its time for me to get a new weight mold and a worm farm.

That's pretty good gpc...I've been tying my own for numerous years as well, and have really enjoyed it. I think they run avg. $3 to 4.00. I like to use the quick change clevis as well. Where are you going next weekend? Good luck and have fun!

I am staying at Mar Don resort. Hopefully spend most of our time on the Reservoir. But if that dosnt produce we will make our way to Long, Upper Goose and Soda, in that order.

Check ebay for harness components as well. You can get blade bundles from 20-100 for anywhere from 1.99 - 5.00 which should bring your blade cost down to about .04$ per blade. Also, you can get clevises by the 100 pack for extremely cheap. When tying walleye rigs I personally like to use a floating beat in the center and 2 beads on either end of that with 2 size two bleeding gamis.


Ebay is great for buying bulk though, I just buy everything by the 100 or 200 pack and keep it in storage boxes in my "fish desk" at home. Everything from wedding rings for trout and kokes to these hanresses for the big boys.

For bottom walkers, you can use some hollow core pencil lead and spinner wire to make your own on the cheap.
