Central Sound Coho Fever

Post by Mike Carey » Fri Sep 14, 2012 5:51 am

You've seen the reports - Puget Sound is Red Hot for COHO this year. This video was just shot this week and features my wife (unseen, lol), Nate Treat and Gringo Pescador. Some super cool underwater footage of coho on the attack - not to be missed! Enjoy. [thumbup]

Cool video...makes me want to go catch some.
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

ya, the underwater footage I'm pretty pumped up about. I'm looking forward to use my set up to get more footage of fish taking the bait while trolling. It's pretty cool to review the footage later and see these fish on film.

man, i had to set aside 15 minutes to watch this.. work wasn't having it today.. haha. kid to bed..time...
underwater footage is super cool! i'm guessing you just have it rigged some how to the downrigger cable? curious to know..
i have dropped my gopro down on rope, and i just use the flip it function to get it right side up its crazy how much light is down there naturally. u would never think so..

i was thinking Nate was gonna come up with a 20 lb'er on that 1st one..
speaking of Nate, i am pretty sure now that i seen ya here, i fished on the dock at green lake this past spring with you. April.. we chatted a little, pretty sure i had my boy with me fishing too as i only fish there with him..

thats good fishing, boys!

You are correct. I rigged it into the cable at the ball. Fortunately coho are not DR ball shy because the flasher has to be within about 8 ft or so from the camera. The trick is to get the camera pointing consistantly in the right direction. Also, any deeper than 50 or so and it's totally darkness. Meaning that infrared will be our next adventure. [woot]

It is more green down there then I would have thought. When I have seen footage of people scuba diving ps I don't remember it being so green....must be that top 50 feet with the natural light.

That underwater footage is killer. That first fish I got had the stinger hook in the gill plate so he wa coming in sideways a bit, and on the way up he grabbed some seaweed. Not enough drag to move him for a bit.

yup, there may be some effect of the way the camera translates difuse light vrs. human eye. BTW, the reason the light/dark is sideways is the go pro shifted orientation. I'm working on a design that will correct that issue. GoPros are a blast to fiddle around with.
