2016 Pike Tally

Post by Fish-N-Fool » Wed Feb 17, 2016 7:54 pm

So went out pikin today at one of my favorite waters for a little late winter Pike fishin. In general we had a great day landing 5 fish and missing quite a few more. This was big fish of the day which only topped the scales at 6.7 lbs but not a bad first fish of the year. I haven't been able to get out till now as with my 4 wheel truck broke down I won't try to pull the boat in the winter with my old 2 wheel drive truck. Here are a few pixs of fish. My total so far is 2 on the year. All of them hit jerkbaits in open water over a weedbed.

Looks like you're not wasting any time jumping out to the lead in the pike tally this year. We're planning to head out this weekend and see if we can find anything ready to bite. Not expecting much. Just want to get out and it will give Mark K a chance to run his new boat for the first time. Good looking fish, but then again, aren't they all? =D>

2 more Pike yesterday got this one on a jerkbait that went almost 6 lb. Had a few other hits but the strange thing is the guys I was fishing with caught some nice bass and some slab crappies all on jerkbaits or yoyoing lipless crankbaits. Got a 3.5 lb LM and a crappie that was pushing 14" all in 39 deg water.

What are the chances of getting my Humminbird Autochart software CD that I loaned to you last November back?

This is the biggest, I mean smallest pike i have ever caught. lol
It crushed a HJ-14 like it was a 12lber. That makes #9 on the year.

So fished the CDA lake today with Philip Smith and I had a couple very odd things happen to me. We got there about 10 am and fished hard for about 4 hours with no fish. I finally got a bite on a Perch HJ14 and had Phil's oldest boy reel it in. It was about a 4 lber and he was happy he got to reel in his first ever pike.

Image

We fished about another hour before Phil got hooked up and landed a small one. He got another small fish and I got a 2 1/2 lb L M Bass. Then I had a fish hit that felt big when I set thew hook I couldn't move the fish , the rod bent over and the fish took some line. I could feel some head shakes, then it just came off and was gone. I cast back to that some spot and got hit again but this time it cut me off even though I had about 10" of 80# fluorocarbon leader. It somehow cut the braid above the leader, not sure how that happened but it did. Never got to see the fish but I;m pretty sure it was a good one. So lost that fish and my brand new HJ-14 in a new color for me that looked like a whitefish that I think I'm really going to like. Phil also hot a smallish bass and then I switched to a glass perch and had a good hit but didn't hook anything. I keep working the bait and about 10 seconds later it hit again . Rod loaded up then went slack. I couldn't believe I had got bit off again. Well as it turned out I didn't. some how the bait came off my Fastack clip.

I went to this type of clip because I had a problem with the Dou-Lock clips opening up and loosing fish and I thought no way can a loose on these, Well I can!!!!! lol This fish was also big but I don't know for sure just how big either of the ones I lost were as we didn't really see them, only a swirl in the water.
Story of my life when it comes to me and big pike. I did get 2 pike in the boat so that puts my year total to 15.

So Philip Smith and I fished the open Pike tourney on lake CDA today. There was 17 boats and we caught more fish then any other boat at 16 fish! The next best boat only got 7 fish. Unfortunately the most fish caught paid zip. lol It was all about the biggest fish and we didn't land any over 5 lbs. We fished a weedbed in Wolf Lodge Bay early had a couple bites there but no fish on, Then we headed to Cougar bay and got all the fish we caught in about 2 1/2 hours. I had one that I lost at the side of the boat while trying to get it by the gill plate that was about a 6 to 6 1/2 lb fish but is got off before I got it. My biggest was 5lb. and Phil's was 4 1/2. So we did the cardinal sin, we left fish that were biting to go find fish. lol Trying to find some bigger fish but only had a couple bites in Blue Creek and that ended our day. Big fish was 10.2 lbs. next was 8.6 lbs. and a 7 took 3rd. We had a good day even if we didn't win anything.
I got 8 out of the 16 and That takes me to 23 on the year.

The Fool has a commanding lead in this years pike tally with 23 pike in the boat. (And a few big ones that got away) ](*,)

Hang on to your boot straps boys. I'm hanging up the walleye gear for a while, and I'll start pike fishing next weekend. I have some ground to make up!
