Ice fishermen and women are definitely a different breed of animal.. [confused] I cannot imagine going out in the cold to even get colder, to auger a hole in the ice and fish through it,, :fish: hard to go 60mph over frozen water and to throw spinnerbaits and cranks through a 6" hole.. I will fish over on the west side as much as possible until our water becomes liquid once again. Over by Pasco on the river has been great fishing with football jigs for giant brown bass until this last cold front.. [biggrin]

I was at Elokia yesterday. 5 inches of ice 30 to 40 fish, missed another 20 bites, not bad for a rookie. Does anyone know how to properly sharpen an ice auger?

Any news on Silver Lake, is there enough ice to fish it?

I went out to Silver lake a little more than a week ago and it was still about 90% open water, so I'm assuming that lake still has a ways to go. I'll try and get another look at it this week.

As of yesterday, there is no ice on Silver, just a little formed around the docks.

Kefdka, yeah, that's what I saw a week and a half ago. The shallow bays have begun freezing over, and the ice is thick enough to stand on. I imagine the rest of the lake will begin to ice up in the next couple of weeks... however, I have never ice fished Silver lake and don't know when it usually freezes.

@romanfishing - Fishtrap's been closed since 9/30.

@kfedka & fishtank - thanks for reporting on Silver.

@fishtank - Silver's usually one of the last to freeze, though it keeps the ice on for a pretty long time.

I've never wandered too far south on Silver when it's frozen (not trusting the ice), but I might make a go of it this year to see what's in that deeper water

I was actually wondering just how far south anglers go on the ice. It seems the majority head out about 20-50 yards from the boat ramp, but I have seen footprints and some sled trails leading southward.

Has anyone had any luck catching bass through the ice on Silver??

On second thought, if you can catch perch in shallower water, why bother wandering into deeper water - it'll just take longer for your jigs to sink and at that depth it might be hard to set the hook. If there were walleye, that'd be a different story.

Never caught anything but perch out of Silver during ice on. No bass. No tiger musky - though it's been done. No trout. Not even bluegill - which I find really odd. If you want LMB, Eloika's the lake to hit.

Eloika's ice is only getting better. I have fished it 3 times the week. Monday it was at about 5.25" and now it's a sold 6". The ice is clear and strong. I will post a report soon....the fishing has been good so far :cheers:

According to http://www.angelfire.com/wa/nwfishing/L ... ports.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Fish Lake (Wenatchee) 12/21/2011

"... This lake near Leavenworth and Lake Wenatchee is one of the few in Central or Eastern Washington already suitable for ice fishing..."
I have a trip planned for January 27-29 in the area. I can't wait! I sure hope the ice sticks around this year.
