need explanation of the effect of pressure systems
Can someone explain how high pressure fronts in front of a system and then lows that come in with he system impact freshwater lake fishing in the sound? I am focused on lake Washington but am also wondering if the effects are the same (or different) in the sound itself. I find myself out on the nice days in the spring with not much action and then staying home once the rain moves in but I have no idea what the fish are doing during these changes.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: need explanation of the effect of pressure systems
way too much to try to explain, or even understand, I pay no attention to it, has NEVER made any difference in my success fishing. I've even looked it all up on the internet, and even the famous Bass fishing person, Bill Dance has said on his tv show that there are too many other influences to consider, or prove that pressure makes much, or how much of a difference.

Great answer. I guess it means we should just fish more:-)
Re: need explanation of the effect of pressure systems
Yup.
Last summer when this questian came up, I watched the pressure most every day. It had no bearing on the fish I caught.
going up, I caught fish, sometimes lots of fish, sometimes not so many. Sometimes big fish, sometimes not.
going down same thing.
steady high same thing.
steady low same thing.
made not one iota difference in my fishing results.
As I've said for years, go fishing when you can. Where and how you fish are the determining factors in your success. Lures, depth, cover, structure, areas of the lake for the given season. Yes, weather can be a factor, that has been proven time and time again. Spring time the storms can shut down the fish. They are looking for warmer water, cold rain will cool down the water and the fish go back deep to where they know the water is warmer. And the storm can spook the fish fresh up in shallow water. But in April I've done great in windy weather, so who's to say for sure. Just go and give it a try. Clean clear air after a storm can be a bit bright on the fishes eyes so they can be deep, or back in/under the cover in the shade, been proven many times over many years, even this past month by me as to where I've caught some fish.
Now a weather front is coming in so I have to go fishing.
they just might bite, bye for now/couple hours.

Re: need explanation of the effect of pressure systems
Normally a change in pressure is associated with a change in weather conditions. If it is bright and sunny the pressure is typically high, as the pressure drops, the clouds will move in, winds will kick up and you may or many not get rain. It seems to effect some bodies of water and species of fish more than others. I can say for certain that the cutthroat trout bite on Lake Washington dies off for the first day or two after sunny and calm (high pressure) moves in after a period of rain and overcast weather. I don't notice much of a change when targeting saltwater species, other than the fishing conditions get better or more challenging.

From tv channel 4's web page, I can believe some of it, but certainly not all of it. Read it, take from it what you will as it pertains to YOUR fishing.;

Re: need explanation of the effect of pressure systems
I've tracked pressure in my fishing journal for a few years now and have to agree with Amx, I can't find a solid correlation between air pressure and fishing success. For a little while I thought I had something figured out then more time on the water proved it was just wishful thinking. Have caught limits in low and high pressure and been skunked or had very little action in both conditions as well.
Not being stubborn, hard task for me, has brought me more success than anything. If they don't like what your offering and how your offering it, change it up until they do. No bites trolling, try still bottom fishing, no takes still bottom fishing, try jigging and on and on.... Been far more impactful for me then worrying about air pressure. Good luck out there!
Should add my experience is mostly fishing lakes for kokanee, trout, perch. Can't help you with puget sound.

Re: need explanation of the effect of pressure systems
With trout I think it's the sunlight that turns them off more than the pressure. In my experience, after morning if it's sunny trout go into hiding, at least in deep lakes. In ponds and shallow lakes it doesn't seem to make a difference.

When I was much younger, backpacking, the cutthroat bite really turned on right before and during the early stages of a thunderstorm or heavy rains(low pressure).. Bass don't care apparently, cutthroat do. In my experience. It's possible other trout react similarly. Backpacking was strictly lures and flies, mountain lakes and rivers.
