Went down to the Nisqually on a week day and found some room to fish. Spent a lot of my childhood in Alaska and got spoiled having the ability to move up and down a river without asking permission. Caught a decent fish floating eggs and lost a nicein at the bank. Only saw 6 fish caught 3 of which were silvers.

Went out with a couple buddies yesterday morning from about 5:30-9:45-10am. Got to the spot and it wasnt too bad looking, clearish water and fish were jumpin everywhere and we all had pretty high hopes for it. We tried everything we could to even get a bite yesterday, but couldnt even get that so we had switched spots up and fished more down stream but nothing seemed to be hitting. Going to give it another try this week and hopefully we nail some. Good luck guys

the river is still so very cloudy chalky. only had two brief hookups in a four hour period. people are starting to get the word or idea of at least picking up their trash after they leave it looks somewhat better today than the past couple weeks as far as a holes dumping garbage and beer cans and coffee cups go.

Fly fished in the afternoon for a couple hours and caught a mess of cutthroat and rainbows. All fished came on a grasshopper pattern with most fish averaging 6 to 8 inches. Saw one big trout about 18 inches but could not get him to rise. I had a small mayfly hatch towards about 7pm, but otherwise nothing special. Had a bikini clad woman show up and tan herself on one of the big rocks in the river. Then she went to her truck and tried fishing with one of those little kid reels. She caught nothing, but maybe a sun burn, good eye candy, but bigger fish would have been more attractive.

Well, after throwing in my crab pots in Oro Bay, I decided to take the boat up the Nisqually to see how far I could get up it in my outboard. I noticed on the way up lots of drift nets or bouys for drift nets. Can anyone tell me if those are drift nets or just bouys? It was concerning for the shear volume and all the foam filled floating tires. I was going to call WDFW but don't want to waste their time if it is not derilict gear. I did not fish, just looked around. Thanks for comment. Most of the gear looked ancient, but either way the river looked trashy from the debris.

Went out to JBLM for chum had a good day with my boy. He tied up a a Bobber with a jig pink/black. He fished for an hour with no take downs and all of a sudden I hear fish. His heart was pumpin,I look down and see its a chrome hen. She took a few runs but didn't get in the main current and we got her in. Was good to see my boy do it on his own. Also there were tons of guys on the other side biting a hole who were doing good drifting corkies. Merry Christmas and god bless.

Fished the Nisqually for a few hours this evening. Tried my hand using spinners and after almost an hour of no luck I has a fish hit so hard it nearly ripped the rod out of my hands. After a few runs the fish came to hand and was released to go about its business. Shortly after I switched gear to drift fishing using a 3 ft leader and had way better luck hooking 5 and releasing 4. Oh the 5 that were landed 2 were in bad shape. I released all fish. There was a guy who after seeing me catch fish came over right next to me and proceeded to snag fish hooking them in the back, tail, and belly. It was pathetic and a poor example of sportsmanship. At least he released them all though kicking them back into the water from 4 feet away hardly counts. Besides that knucklehead the fishinges was good.

I guess DNR got the word of no salmon too. The river is closed to harvest of chinook due to low returns until further notice.

Off of Old Pacific Hwy there is a location that DoD card holders are allowed to fish from. It is on the stretch of river south of five just north of the Old Pac Hwy. I went there for my first time salmon fishing and there were bites, we hooked a few but all morning (5.57am-noon) and out of my group of people 2 fish were caught but one had to be let go because it was foul caught. Then out of the string of people fishing in that spot there were 3 that could be taken home. I hooked one and it got off.

The fish weren't jumping and my friend who has been fishing there for years says it was quite slow as you could not see fish jumping or breaking the water on their own.
