Fishing the rapids just below the bridge, and a large Salmon (for the nooksack) probably 20 pounds swam right past my feet, and settled in, in the rapids 20 feet upstream from me. I tried to get my spinner in front of it, but the fish spooked and took off across the rapids back sticking out and all. Lots of aggressive small rainbows around 6", and another species I couldnt identify, they are about 6" also, but just silver. No spots, no markings, just a long and skinny silver fish...
Several of them nabbed my spinner as I retrieved it. All were carefully let go.

Today downstream of the Everson bridge I was talking to a couple pontoon boaters and an old bull COHO really scraped up swam up to my feet looked at me, and turned away heading downstream.
The unique thing about this bull is it looked very ratty. Like post spawning ratty. But it was a very nice solid body fish about 24-26" long. This bull was seen about 1/4 mile downstream of the bridge. Right at the river corner in the slack water.
On the way back toward the bridge, about half way back a nice black back shot out of the water in the rapid about half way back upstream.
No fish, but at least I saw some, The sunset on the Nooksack was amazing tonight!

Actually the days I've caught a coho was September 13, 22 and 23. 2 hatchery 4 and 5 bls. and 1 wild 2.5 bls. Caught them all on silver super deep vibrax. In between Nugents Corner and the South Fork.

First trip to the Nookie since I've been back, and it was an interesting homecoming.

First off, the Nooksack River Valley is gorgeous. Splicing through tree covered valleys, dancing clouds around the hilltops, and golden fall colors complete with a brisk chill in the air, the grey-blue waters run cold and free. They also do not give up their secrets easily, but careful prodding and exploration can yield results to those who seek it.

I managed only a few fish, no salmon of any sort... just some of the ghosts of the Nookie: pale, wild, and aggressive rainbows and char. The largest was about 21", but seriously thick. I've never felt a bull of any size fight as hard as this guy did after putting the hammer on my offering. He took off like a steelhead, peeling about twenty yards of line, before porpoising and thrashing like a steelhead. I was shocked when the bull came into view. All in all, a great day of fishing.

Sidenote: Gillnets. C'mon, y'all. I found two derelict nets on the shore which had failed to be removed and were waiting for the river to rise and take them back into the current. As far as I know, it is illegal for the owner of these to not pick 'em up. So, I did their work for them, and picked the one up that I could reach and deposited it well above the flood lines. If the owner want it back, he can find it where he left it. I took a picture of the number on the buoy for reference.

I'm just doing my part to help our rivers out. Hopefully we can all step up our game and help ourselves by helping out our rivers & fish.
**Also included is a piece of political humor. I'm just making a joke, do not take this as a statement of my beliefs. Just laugh. Or quietly hate me- I don't care :)
Ian

Well didn't get a thing.....but whats new this year so far. I was fishing at harksell and flynn bar today. Harksell was pretty dead, didn't really see anything roll. Flynn bar was a bit better just because I at least saw signs of life. Wasn't a whole lot though a few fish at most probably. Maybe I should have tried below the slater road bridge, there were probably about 10 cars or so on either side of the road. They must know something I don't.... Still a nice evening to get out and spend it fishing. I was mainly throwing various spinners and twitching jigs. Hopefully things will pick up in the coming weeks.....

I live in Everson, WA. After many attempts from the Nooksack Bridge at Everson through various access points such as Harksell rd, all the way through to the boat landing in Ferndale (down stream of the green bridge) There has been little to any reports of any fish at all being seen. Since the last rains that muddied up the river, the Coho and Chinook have seemingly vanished. No matter the gear, it begins to feel as though your fishing in an empty river.
Given the season is just getting started, hopefully it will pick up.

Went out to the the Nooksack to try at some Coho and Chinook starting migration. After a few hours the other day and several hours yesterday, did not catch a thing. We tried areas in Ferndale as well as Lynden. The water is also extremely silty... as usual. In Lynden there were several fish rising, so many we just wern't using the right baits. I tried several chrome and bright colored spoons, different colored and sized blue fox spinners, and various other spinners.
