Fishing has been outstanding in the Wanapum pool. It takes a bit if effort to find even smoker quality fish, but the constant action is well worth it. We have been catching 10-12 fish from shore in a few hour period early on 3-6am (location near Gettys cove, but will not give the exact location). Tuna balls, baited lucky glow spoons and roe have been the ticket, even at night. We usually don't fish passed the 22nd (end of treble hook use), but with the great action, it might be worth it. Cheers!

Well got to post my report good bad or indifferent. I hope i got this in the right location. We worked from below rock island dam. Started out leaving Okanogan at 4 am. I'm not a early bird so I really need to WANT to be going some wear sweet to be up this early. But this is a bucket list fish and my friend has been doing this for years. Friend is driving and pulling his boat. Beautiful sunrise. Pull into cresent bar boat launch at about 6 am. Crash bang! I look back and see a tire bounce past. We pull in at the boat launch and lose the tire. Not the tire falls off after we launch the boat. It's 6 am. Long story it's 9 before we get our lines out. Got a couple bites early on then hours of nothing. We started just below the dam. Worked our way down from there. Focused on 40-50 FOW. Well a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work. Purple pickled squids
Tight lines

Went out this last tuesday and picked up a couple jacks on brad's cut plug's, both on "The honeydew". using only pro cure bloody tuna scent. I know the norm around here is tuna fish with super dipping sauce "salmon" but i am trying to see if some lower columbia river techniques work up here. also was using shortbus flashers instead of dodgers. Caught them both at around 30 to 20ft in 40ft of water. saw a mess of fish around the cove bridge but none of the biting type:(

My Grandfather and I fished fished the backwater sloughs of the Columbia River today. The only luck we (I) had was at Buckshot, just north of Desert Air on RD 26SW. Although we did try other backwater, this is the only place we could get any hits. I missed two, and caught two, but the day was nice, and I got some quality time with my Grandfather. One Smally measured at 15 inches, and the other at 14 inches, both around a 1.25 and 1.50lb.

I tried everything, and the only luck I had was on a quarter ounce Round, black Jig with a 5 inch Kalin's Lunker Watermellon Seed Grub. I tried a variety of Rapalas, and even nightcrawlers on the top and bottom. Like I said, still a fun day, even though the bite was slow.

Joe

Not a bad catch for a days fishing off shore. Used a red/mirror cut plug with tuna . I caught 2 the most caught around me. I talked to a couple of boats below wanapum and each caught 2 fish only . so I guess I didn't do to bad for shore fishing.... started around 6:00am to 11:00 am...Tight Lines gents........

Fished around Getty's cove looking for sockeye coming over the dam. Nothing... didn't even see another boat in the area. After a couple of hours ran along the dam and saw 3 boats fishing right up tight against the rocks just to the East of the dam buoys. Unfortunately, it was time to head home so we didn't jump in line. Anyone have any help on this? I suppose I could go below the dam, but that is a mad house! I don't think it would be much fun fishing in that circus. Any input appreciated.

Oh, fished for smallmouth for a bit too. Got a couple of dinks along the I-90 bridge. Overall, very slow.

Thanks,

Dan

MAN! Wanapum DAM! You better be ready for crazy stuff out here. I launch in tumble weeds over here in eastern washington usually, but this launch is nutz! Waves crashing into the boat... the boat bashing against the trailer... people getting slammed against the shore... old people struggling to just survive... I saw a boat hit a wave and de-cleat an old man trying to hold onto his boat. All I am saying is, if you are going to launch here, it is a minimal of two people that know what they are doing. You better be an awesome captain or have a big boat. 14 sockeye in 4 hours. flashers, and shrimp. Follow the rules or get vandalized in the parking lot aparently. This is the wild west, no cops, and no jurisdiction. Mattawa!

Fished Getty's Cove for a few hours just to see if any sockeye were around. Didn't find any!

Packed up and headed to the bridge for smallmouth. Got one decent smallmouth and one squawfish right along the rip-rap. Trolling motor batteries died after an hour or so? Must be time to replace one or both of them. That put an end to our day of fishing.

Tried fishing around Vantage on Saturday. Winds were very high. Original plan was to fish around the bridge and South of there. Winds forced us to the North of the bridge right along the West side (protected from the wind). One strike... no others hits or anything. We were briefly entertained by a large salmon? It was jumping right next to our boat. It jumped maybe 4 or 5 times.

We knew we were short on time, We had hoped to get down around Crescent Bar - but that would have left us with too little time to fish. Plus, the high winds would have made for a rough trip. Haven't fished down at Crescent Bar yet. I have heard the fishing is better down there.
