Cindy and I Made a run over to Seaton's Grove This Am to fish the upper pens area. We met hewesfisher, his lovely wife, and their fishing partner Amber in Grand Coulee, and went on down to the launch. Cindy and I ran down to the middle pens to start our day. there was little to no current running, and the bottom pens had been harvested. this changed the environment where we usually fish, so we drifted/motored around below the pens and worked the area with jigs (have I mentioned we like to jig). We tried B-2 Squids, The new (to me) Uncle Walt's mini tube jig (that was hot at the lower pens yesterday), and our usual variety of plastic jigs in 1/16 & 1/8oz. The B-2 Caught fish, and the dark plastic grub caught fish, but not alot of hits, and those were very light. I even broke out my New Fly rod out fit, and threw some wooly buggers and an assortment of other flies to no avail. We ended up finishing our four fish/two person limit around mid afternoon. We passed by the hewesfisher at one point and there were smiles and slime, so look forward to a report from him. The fish today were fiesty, and put up a better battle than most, so an exciting day. Our largest today was 11# 15oz, and the smallest weighed in at 10# and a few oz. A slow bite, but the ones that did bite ended up making it a great day for us.
Hewesfisher, It was great to meet you and yours, and you guys have a great looking boat. Best of luck on your future trips. Tight lines and sharp hooks everyone

I can't tell you how much we enjoyed meeting up with you two, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge, tackle, and RW produce with us. It's folks like you that make life enjoyable! Glad to see your fish report today, and what a stringer too, all over 10lbs!!! You can rest assured we'll be going back to RW in the near future, and next time I'll have my bow mount motor on board so we can work around the pens easier. If I could get away during the week instead of having to wait for the weekends.....

Morning hewesfisher, Somedays are better than others, and we get out when the oportunity presents itself. We've spent many years on this body of water, and Lady luck seems to like to ride in "Ole" blu. I bet the fly you were using would work in a drift/jig presentation. Just rig it on mono, with a splitshot(1/8 oz or so) and let out enough line where you think it would be in the 15 ft or so range, set it in the rod holder, and Debbie would be set to do battle. As you move around with the electric, the fly would be moving around in the "kill zone". You and yours take care and hope to see you two on the water again

Wow Loui, Trout like that could almost tempt a die hard bass fisherman!

Morning Bob J, I don't think there is the same adreneline rush as when you get the "explosive" surface hits from the bass, But since I'm not heavy into the bassin, It'll have to do. LOL thanks Sir for the post, and wishing you the best.

Hi there toni, So far it has been catches of larger fish, I really don't have an explanation for the larger fish, BUT I'm sure not going to question it. LOL.

Lewis, do you eat anything besides trout? I'm glad your diet is Eastern WA. trout, if you ate as many West side trout,, you might have a 3rd eye soon.

Hey Charlie, That is out of my scope of information. I don't know about the dumping of Roosevelt, and if it would affect the RW fishing. My guess would be the only difference would be flow and water level. If that were the case, we would just adjust the presentations. Sorry I'm not much help with this one, but maybe someone with experience with it will step in with some information. Stay well Charlie and good luck on the water.

Hello The Quadfather, Yep Stir fried teryaki(sp) fried rice goes well with the trout. LOL. We grill them, fry them, smoke em up, and george foreman alot of them. When the fish are biting, we have "lots of friends". LOL

Hi Loui. Nice catch! What do you have 800lbs of fish in your freezer? It seems as though you show pictures of full stringers of trout on nearly every trip. Do you actually eat all of those fish? Anyway, nice catch. It must be nice to be so close to Rufus Woods that you can fish it whenever you want. I'm very jealous. Leave some fish in there for me. LOL!

Thanks Steelhead6438, No we don't eat all of them, but let's just say we're lucky the fish is a healthy food, otherwise we'd be in trouble. If it wasn't for having folks living in the area that enjoy a nice mess of fish, then we wouldn't be going out nearly as often. We are very fortunate to live only 40 miles from the Chief Joe launch area, and we can look out the window and see the waters of Lake Chelan. We are truly blessed. It's seems a shame to drive all the way to RW with Lake chelan so close, but the Triploids eat a lot better for us than the Macks (just a personal preference). Although We plan to book a trip with Joe in the springtime to see if we can learn how to troll for those Chinook here in the lake. One way to look at it Steelhead6438, is I'm culling out some of the "older" fish at RW which are probably going to croak soon anyway. LOL. I look forward to seeing a "Future" Rufus Woods report and pics from when you come over. It is a nice body of water to fish.

Hey Troller, just rig up on the jig head and in the areas where you have caught fish, just fan cast around, and jig away. When you jerk/twitch the Squids they should dart to one side or the other creating a spastic action. Good luck.
