Dave Matulka of Cle Elum and fishing partner John Jensen of Easton were nice enough to go fishing with us up at Rufus. Conditions were difficult. Surface temps under 35 and low flow. The air temp was in the teens. A real cold spot anomaly. Also, the wind was blowing hard up to 20mph which made the enclosure and propane heat very attractive. Andy has fished some single digit days this winter and he said this was the coldest he has been all winter. So, Andy and Jeff made the run to the pens to beat on the bottom with bait. Rainbow power bait and Gulp eggs were on the menu today. As you would expect with cold water fish, they were light biters. The heavy wind moving the boat made it difficult to read the bites. But they got their fish. Dave and John were real troopers staying on the rods to quickly hook the biters. The big fish was 9.5 pounds. The guys were holding Jeff and Andy's limits in the picture too. Remember, when fishing bait, we gotta keep everything we get to the net. So there were some small fish mixed in.

Good job guys! Anyone trolling stick bates or lures doing any good? I have a trip planned up the the weekend of the 18th and hoping to get some biters of the nespelem flats trolling plugs. Again, good job on the hog.

I think it would be tough. Weekend flows are normally the slowest. The water temp should stay very low. I'm guessing it will be very difficult. Let me know. I sure would like to be wrong. Good Luck! Anton

QUOTE, "Remember, when fishing bait, we gotta keep everything we get to the net. So there were some small fish mixed in." Thanks for the report Anton/Andy and pointing out the "Bait" regs of Rufus Woods. I'm a firm believer in "Perspective". Everything is defined by one's perception of the subject at hand. To me, That is a "Nice" mess of fish, and I when I look at that pic I See " one trophy sized fish mixed in with a limit of nice sized trout". LOL Catching a limit of 2-3 pound trout is a good day on the water (my perspective). So, Thanks again Anton/Andy for sharing great Rufus Woods pics, and a good report. Hope to see you guys on the water.
