8/23/2011 11:58:00 PMbeen there on the deep hooking on topwater...very first one I ever landed was just as you described. Broke my heart so badly I started clipping off parts of the treble on the rear hook so that I wouldnt repeat that. Very, very nice fish...GJ!

8/26/2011 8:29:00 AMWhere the canal comes in is sometimes pretty good where calm water meets the current. I've caught smallmouth, crappie, trout, bluegill, walleye and more there. It is not what it used to be. Int eh spring, some nice bluegill are taken at the inlet where it has a calm sort of bay to the west. Also, some nice trout and in the winter, whitefish can be caught by the picnic tables. I have caught some bass and perch near the landing. SW of the landing can be good for smallies and bluegill. The south fill dam is good for perch and smallmouth. If you go along the bank from there north along the west shore, you find some possible largemouth, and occasional other species. The east side from there produces perch, and some evenings, trout, especially in the spring. There are a couple of spots that produce some big catfish or abundant bullheads where the deep water shelves upward to shore, but that is really an all or nothing proposal. It is a moody lake in general, but when she's nice she's very very nice. We used to call it our spare lake, cause every time we went to Potholes and it was too windy, we went there to escape. Many people did the same, and that may be the reason for the change in fishing, especially with crappie. It used to be considered slow fishing if you left without catching 2 dozen or more nice fish.
As with all the seep lakes, be careful of rattlesnakes and ticks. Ticks seem to vary in abundance year to year. I have had 50+ on each of 3 of us one year, and none the next. Funny how skeeters and ticks graduated from nuisance to health risk in the NW over the years.

8/26/2011 8:40:00 AMBeen a while. Forgot on road K2 (The next turnout from main Soda lake road) there is a walk-in spot to the canal and backside (East) of the North end. Check Google maps. The can be a very good spot from shore. Again, not what it used to be. The canal can be GREAT for trout at times.
