There were 3 poles between our group, fished on the bottom with worms for 3 hours, bottom with worms and white Power Bait power eggs for 2 hours, bottom with bubblegum colored Power Bait power eggs for 2 hours, and bobber with worm down 10" for an hour. We didn't get any bites at all. There was a very large group camping and fishing about 50 yards down from us and I'm guessing they had at least a half dozen poles in the water and They didn't seem to get any action what so ever in the time we were there either. One boat came in and he had got 3 trout, said he had been on the water for a long time to get those but didn't specify how long. The water visibility was only about 6" at best, very muddy water. We were there from about 4:00 to 6:30 pm.

Tough fishing at Rock this year. I and a friend C&R'd 15 last week, but I know that lake like the back of my hand and it took every trick in my playbook. It also took us from sun up to sun down to do it and we had the boat from end to end.

Don't let the strange conditions this year discourage you. Rock is tough from the shore at the launch anytime, and with the water having sooooo much mud this year, you were fighting a tough fight. I seriously doubt I would have done any better had I been right beside you. I also doubt that I would have used anything different, except I never use power bait for the browns, only for the bows.

Good luck next time, but Rock will need to clear for a long time. Ouch!

This is the first time I have fished this particular lake. I live in Richland but am in Cheney most weekends and both the girlfriend and myself really enjoy fishing (I go to school down here and she goes to school at EWU). I fish all the time... unfortunately I don't what I'm doing when I fish for pretty much anything other than rainbows because that is the only thing my family fished for growing up, and despite reading and reading to try to learn how to catch other species and trying those thing out for countless hours, I don't seem to produce pretty much anything. Rainbows and Tiger trout when I'm up near Colville a few times a year, that seems to be the limits of my productive abilities unfortunately, lol. Just in the last 3 weeks I have put 12 pole hours in the Snake river, 10 on Rock Lake, 6 on Fourth of July Lake, 8 on Scooteney Reservoir, and all without so much as a single bite, lol. People can call me ignorant when it comes to fishing but they definitely can't say I'm not dedicated to trying! I am almost sure that I have the lowest rate of fish caught per hour spent fishing out of anyone I know. I sure am glad opening weekend is coming up so I can take advantage of the easy fishing for a while!

Would you by chance have any suggestions on places to fish and what to fish them with? Some places I intend on trying that I haven't yet (only places I have tried are Rock and 4th of July Lake) are William's, West Medical, Clear, Amber, Downs, maybe Badger, and probably Fishtrap. Any suggestions for any of these lakes tackle wish or which are better or worse? Any lakes that I missed that you would suggest? I only C&R fish due to the fact that although I love fishing, I don't care for eating small fish, plus I would rather catch them again! Only exception would be Salmon (which I have never caught) and steelhead (which I have never caught any clipped fish only wilds). Also, I am limited to shore fishing unless there is a place to rent a cheap boat on the lake as in the case of Down's which I intend on trying to fish for Bass and Perch out of their $15/day rental boats. Sorry for writing so much, and thank you in advance if you are willing to share any info!

Hey armstrong88 give me a call, I am headed to Sprague lake on Sunday. Last weekend we killed them there, no guarantees this time but I have an open space on my boat, I have fished this area since I was a kid and can give you some advice during our day on Sprague. I would love to take a fellow Washington lakes member out to some new water. My name is Tom and my #509-294-1389 I might not answer to an unknown # but leave a message and I will call you right back.
