Launched out of Irrigon on Sunday morning 2/18. I like this boat launch as it is out of the wind. Fought the waves as we boated across to the Washington side, and attempted to drift, but wind coming out of the West at 10-14 mph was pushing us back up river. Had to throw out the drift sock and use the bow mount trolling motor to fight the wind/ steer to slowly creep down river. Fished 20-30 FOW just to get enough current for the drift sock to pull us down river. Water temp was 39.5F, air temp around 40F.

Clouds came and went, and had some serious chop on the water. So I thought the chartreuse fire tiger kits tackle with a worm would do the ticket. Ended up being the orange and yellow Kits tackle 1/2 oz lure, no bait that Landed a 2# and 3# walleye, as well as a 2# SMB. yep my old man landed them all... again. All fish caught before 10:00 am.

We really needed another drift sock or less wind to get more of a natural drift. Also Couldn’t feel bottom when current was taking the bait at 45 deg angle.

All in all it was fun to take my daughter out fishing with my dad and mom visiting from Idaho.

Thanks for the report. Just curious, who was on the trolling motor? Sometimes if the guy on the trolling motor is using a differently weighted jig then the fisherman off the motor will not be able to keep vertical or maintain a natural drift.

Bullpine, I hadn’t thought about that. Thanks for the tip. I had the 5/8 oz jig on the front and was steering the bow mount. My dad was the one using the 1/2 oz jig out the back. Since the boat was traveling perpendicular down river, the back of the boat was in slightly slower moving water as well. Due to the wind blowing us back up river, the current ripping underneath us, And us being distracted by my daughter and steering, it’s a miracle we even caught what we did. Lol.
