Tanwax Lake in Pierce County

by Mike Carey, June 21, 2011
173 acres, holds rainbow, eastern brook, crappie, perch, bluegill, and bullhead. Nice WDFW ramp, adequate parking, limited shore fishing.

The bass fishing in Tanwax has somewhat faultered from years gone by. I know personally of 4 bass over ten caught there. Threes and fours were the norm. Years ago it was well known as one of the few lakes that a "blue" plastic worm was the killer color. Also, back in the 70's and earlier Tanwax had huge Pink Lady hatches in the fall that beckoned well known names in the flyfishing circles from around the state. But for unknown reasons, those hatches are now only a shadow of what they once were. Tanwax is still a beautiful lake.
