Pink Salmon Jigging at the Shipwreck

by Mike Carey, September 02, 2011
Wow! Pink salmon flood into the Puget Sound in odd numbered years. Prime fishing can be found at "Humpy Hollow" and more specifically "The Shipwreck". My wife JoAnn and I fish with Toni of www.WannaFishaLure.com to try out her pink jigs. They work great! Jig fishing is a nice, relaxing alternative to the more popular trolling for pinks, and as we demonstrate can be just as effective. Filmed Aug 27, 2011.

What kind of gear were you using? Rigging the jig(what weight?) straight to your mainline? What lb test would you typically run?

the heavist jigs Toni has, which I believe were 1/2 oz, and in tandom. Line was a thin braid, probably 20 lb, and I'm thinking I used like a 12 pound leader but can't remember for sure. Cast as far out, 45 degrees up from the "drift" and let the jigs drop, then ease them back in. No need to do exagerated jigging, the fish would take them on a steady retrieve.

I used 12-15 pound test mono straight to the jig. I can't remember for sure. I used a single 1/2oz jig.
