Re: Crappie in Black Lake, Thurston Co.

I can't show you any spots (I'm a bit away from there) but crappie love wood...docks, fallen trees, limb piles. Rock piles are good place to check too. I'm no expert but those are the types of places I've found them with any consistency. They can be a weird fish though cause at times they'll school...

Crappie in Black Lake, Thurston Co.

 I know that Black lake here in Olympia has a good population of Crappie. I've even seen guys with a nice cooler of fish. I have tried several times to fish for them and have always got skunked. I can catch trout on this lake, but the crappie and perch have eluded me to the point of embarra...

Old and moldy??? Wow! I could see a pink, or even coho, but if the green already has old and moldy chum that’s not good.

The Process For Setting Salmon Season's Could Change Forever

For those that are not aware, the process of setting salmon season's is known as the North of Falcon (NOF) . It is a series of meetings and negotiations that culminate in our salmon seasons, harvest quotas, restrictions and closures. For some time now, there has been a lot of concern about the meth...

Re: North of Falcon: A Dismal Failure in Co-Management

Tracker, I respect your opinion. And I understand that there are a some people who feel the same way. Unfortunately, doing the same thing over and over only results in the same thing. I can assure you. This is not about just wanting to "get more". It's about preventing that from happening, since tha...

Re: North of Falcon: A Dismal Failure in Co-Management

1. The WDFW Commission, IS subject to the States Open Public Meeting Act (OPMA) 2. The Commission delegates its authority to the Department to conduct negotiations, adopt, and amend rules on its behalf . The OPMA follows that delegation since the Department staff now become an extension of the Commiss...

North of Falcon: A Dismal Failure in Co-Management

Sports fishermen have yet again taken a big hit in the 2019 North of Falcon. Particularly hard hit was the sportsmen and women who enjoy the fisheries of Puget Sound. Many people in our sport rarely dig into the mechanics of the North of Falcon process. I dare say, many don't even know what it is. R...

Re: Salmon in trouble

Lower numbers of adult and juvenile fish in the salt chuck coupled with the very low water conditions we have been experiencing could add up to a crash in salmon runs. Although we can continue to pump hatchery fish into the system, their needs to be a MAJOR mind shift in the management models. We ca...

URGENT!! YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!!

We are making progress in our fight to open the WDFW/Tribal meetings that are currently closed to any public oversight! But, we NEED YOUR HELP! Our strength is in our numbers, and over 4000 sportsmen and women have already supported our petition. However, there are over 600,000 fishing license holde...

Re: Tribal gil nets are in the water in MA 10

Here are a few things the State can and should do if they truly supported open and fair fisheries management. The Director of the WDFW could, for starters; 1. Formally request mediation. 2. Request assistance from the Governor and his office of tribal affairs. 3. Ask the WDFW Commission to open a di...

Re: Tribal gil nets are in the water in MA 10

First, thank you to everyone who signed and support our initiative to bring some transparency to the Tribal/State North of Falcon negotiations. I would just like to touch on the subject of Sovereign nation and State responsibility as far as our fisheries are concerned. The Native American "nations" ...

Re: State loses contract to operate two fish hatcheries after report of sexual culture

Thank you Larry for posting this. It is truly unfortunate that even other gov't agencies can see how incompetent WDFW is in running our hatcheries. This is most unfortunate, since the momentum gained will be to eliminate even more hatcheries, or turn them over to the tribes.
