Well, the hatchery escapement reports for Sunset Falls on the Sky was at 245 pinks on August 15. As of today, they have received 4800+! Big difference this week and it should be lights out by the upper river opener for us bankies on the 1st! I was pretty excited and thought I would share.

how does that work? does this hatchery raise pinks, or do the pinks like to go there for some reason?
more pinks, they are really fun to fish. give quite a fight!

I thought that pinks and chums dont get raised by the state or natives? They might just get counted to see the return numbers and immediately released.

Good question, Woady! I'm really not sure why they return to the hatchery. I know I got my first pinks of the season July 22 while fishing hoodsport. The hatchery was crawling with them! And if you look into September's hatchery escapement from 2011, it looks like they will get a lot more than 4800 pinks back.

It's a count, they're not hatchery fish. Sunset falls fish collection facility is where they keep track of them. Not that pinks that far upstream are very tasty, but they sure are fun to catch@! They stacked up already in the lower river that is open though too.
