What/where can I fish right now?

Postby DV_XJ » Wed Jan 25, 2017 12:28 am

I've been stationed out of state for 6 years but I've recently moved back and want to go fishing in the next few weeks. I live in Spanaway in pierce county and would like to fish in the county but i wouldn't be opposed to going somewhere else if i needed too. So where can I fish and what can i fish for? Thank you in advance!

Well, given where you are located, you could always consider taking trout gear (spinning or fly) out to the salt and looking for sea run Cutthroat. The Skookumchuck should be getting going for Steelhead right about now also.

You could also go trout fishing in a number of nearby lakes, BUT, a license is required, separate ones are needed for fresh and saltwater, and they expire the end of March. If you don't have one, you might wish to hold off until April 1 or pick fresh or salt to limit your costs.

Just go to Google maps, look at the blue (water)
And then read in the regs, for those bodies of water. (To include emergency regs)
You will see what is currently open, locations, and species.

The skookumchuck is as dead as my great grandma and there is absolutely not enough steelhead to go out there. Been out on the river floating beads, jigs and throwing spoons/spinners.. Havjt had any action and have been talking with the locals. Everyone and their brother fishes the chuck that lives around there and nothing is being caught. Heard the run came early and many people missed it.. If you're looking for some winter steel before they are all gone, try the Olympic Panisula although it's such a far drive... anyways guys.. best of luck!!

That or go spend the $$$$ and go fish with a guide on the OP.... I will not and I stand my ground WILL NOT HIRE A NATIVE GUIDE TO FISH A RIVER THAT RUNS THROUGH THIS STATE..... Hypocritical maybe, but there is no call for any native to charge just to fish a river that passes thru THEIR RESERVATION.... JUST MY OPINION...

Unless you want to catch fish... :pirat:
Got a bud that hires a native guide a couple times a year and he ALWAYS comes back with fish. :-"

You're not paying a 'fee' for the fact that you are fishing the Native's land.
You are paying for the service of the guide, just the same as when you pay any other guide. Or when you pay for any other service in life.
Edit: Or maybe there actually is a separate fee beyond the charge of the Native guide, maybe I mispoke.
But not sure I see the problem with anybody charging a 'fee' to do something on their land. If you go camping on my property, if I charge you for my making breakfast, that is my 'Outfitter's fee. If I charge 10 bucks just because it's my land, so be it.
If a guy wants to catch fish, sometimes you gotta pay the ferry man.

Quad: Well thought out and I agree.
However there is one point that must be noted:
There is a song that advises otherwise i.e. "Whatever you do, don't pay the ferryman! Don't even fix a price!" Chris De Burgh

As the other thread made very clear, dj2loud has a bias against natives. That is his issue, not paying for a guide, but a NATIVE guide.
