anyone ever fish it i never have but im tryin to once it opens. i believe you cant keep any fish out of it but still wana try it. any tips or input?

FYI, you can keep game fish that aren't trout. However, this doesn't mean you can keep salmon as they are food fish. Single point barbless, no bait or scent and your net must be knotless if you bring one along. Fish early morning and stay out of the water as much as possible so as not to spook the fish. If you decide to raft or float the river, do not even attempt to get near the log jams. Get out of the river and walk around, especially if it's posted!

No worries on your lure.... just pick up some single hooks and switch out the treble that came with the lure. pinch the barb, and your good.:albino:

i love fishing but i dont eat fish lol so i usually dont keep them. but i have bunches of lures ill have to put single hooks on. anybody ever fish it? if so howd ya do

do the fish in teh cedar not wana bite or what??? we threw all kinds of things at them (all lures) and i think maybe we got a couple bites could have been bottom. saw tons of fish but they wouldnt take it anybody got any ideas or help?

my buddy was out there with his fly rod and he didnt get anything either. we saw the fish and we put stuff right in front of it they wouldnt take

What you were seeing were most likely sucker fish. The slower moving sections can get loaded with them. Trout are difficult to see in the river, they blend in very well. If you're tossing bugs go wet, nymphs, minnows and crawfish patterns. If your not a fly fisherman try using a size 50 or 60 Hotshot in a rainbow trout or green pirate pattern, remember to switch out the treble for a single barbless hook. If you can't get any action with the Hotshot, move on to the next hole as you either spooked the fish or there aren't any to be had. Also, once the rafters come through, pack it in and head for a different system.

yea im not a fly fishermen where do ya get the hot shots at and any idea on what color would work the best. there was a guy who told me that the fish were sucker fish though

Well the color/patterns are in my previous reply. Where to get them? I think the best place now would be Outdoor Emporium, Sportco or Cabelas. You can look around at various other stores but it will be hit or miss that they carry them and really rare that they would have the size and pattern you want. Come to think of it, we really need to get a listing of local tackle shops and in what they specialize started on this site if it hasn't been done so already.

No Donaldson trout in this system, they were raised and released from the UW campus. In the cedar river you'll find your standard everyday garden variety resident rainbow and the very rare steelhead. You may find a cutt or two but they are mostly out of the river by the time it opens for C&R in the summer.

i heard the u realsed the donaldsons into lake washington and then they came up the river after the sockeye eggs. I got to see two of elusive cedar river metalheads last year,one in my back yard the other one in maple valley.we also did realy good on cutts last year.I've fished every day since opened this and haven't caught a fish yet,and ive only seen a small handfull caught.

Try some mini repalas they are a deadly river trout bait:-$

Think steelhead fishing and then scale it down a bit, this river is best attacked side drifting and float fishing. Size 4 hooks max, 3+ foot flourocarbon leaders and find the small stuff to create your lures. The river is small and the slots in the drifts that hold fish are typically narrow and fast moving so spinner and spoon fishing is pretty tough. Small pink rubber worms, unscented of course, and crappie jigs can get the job done. Small diving plugs are effective when you can sneak above a hole and slowly work the lure downstream through the holding water. Now when you get to the end of your drift and your lure is in shallower, slower moving water be especially attentive to your gear as the suckers will take it from time to time. And speaking of suckers, I think it's about time to start culling them from the river as it is absolutely loaded with them, we'll see if they make goood crab bait.
