so this next year i plan on hitting more lakes than i usually do mostly for bass and trout but also for panfish and really the only fish im not sure of how to catch is perch during the spring/summer. i understand the baits and lures that work well but what are the feeding and location patterns of these fish?

I've managed to catch a ton of perch with cranks and jigs(Roadrunner)
But my best perch outings consists of the bare basics. Worm and bobber,this basic technique
is often over looked but for me,it delivers by far the best perch fishing.

As for patterns...well I typically find them snuggled up right next to the crappie and gills.
Late spring they are well into the shallows or hiding under docks,in weeds or other near shore cover.

do they seem to have a preference between a rocky bottom or a grassy bottom or a silty bottom?

I'm not a Washington native, but in Wisconsin perch seem to concentrate in weedy areas near the bottom. There is less likely a chance of any predator fish in these areas when compared to rocks and silt. On some of my favorite lakes in Washington, I have had the most luck in weedy areas nearer to the bottom with bobber and worm with the occasional perch coming up to a crappie jig.
