Does anyone on this fishing board have experience fishing the wind river and drano lake springer fishery? I plan on taking some time off work to drive down there and explore and fish. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. My husband and I do our own work when it comes to learning a fishery, so you dont need to give us spots or locations or anything. I am just looking for a little advice on pointing us in the right direction. Things such as "careful in this area, the locals are crazy, or the fish readily take eggs but try a..." We are bank bound and I have really no interest in playing bumper boats. I understand that a lot of the bank of drano is also used by the native americans. Send me a pm any advice to help keep us out of trouble would be amazing!

drano is a boat show but there is good bank access. if you have a small boat like a canoe you may use it to ferry across and catch some space of your own for sure. as far as the wind goes its fast so eggs drift fished on more weight than you would traditionally use around here is a norm. there are lots of bait stealers so a tighter steelhead egg cured a bit tougher will save you some rigging time. bring your hiking waders its in a canyon and longer walks trend to less crowded conditions. hope that helps and good luck.

You used to be able to drive up about a couple miles below shepard falls and hike thebank. I think that access to park was shut down ...i havent done that in several yrs. I remember some giant bolders both in and out of the water on the way...

Good luck

Drano is a very fun fishery, but everyone knows about it! I know there is some people that fish it from the bank. Eggs under a slip float 15-25' down. I have never asked how the bankies have done though... most of the fish we catch are a ways of shore.

As far as the Wind. I have never fished it but I will try to gather some intel.

Hey you may also considering going after them on the Cowlitz~ same way with eggs under a bobber from Blue creek to Barrier dam will hold fish as they come out of the Columbia
