I'm looking at trolling motors, and found a good deal on a 70 lb thrust @ amazon. link (temporarily out of stock)
Adding this beastie should give me a combined thrust of 110 lbs, or ~2 hp.
Are 24 volt batteries "special"? (maintenance, chargers, lifetime expectancy, etc)
12 vs 24 volt?

RE:12 vs 24 volt?
a 24 volt trolling motor implies that you need 2 standard 12 volt batteries, wired in series. since i don't know your knowledge level on this, i'll quickly explain it. you will need one short jumper in addition to the positive and negative wires coming from the trolling motor. the positive from the trolling motor goes to (+) on battery 1. then put the jumper from (-) battery 1 to (+) battery 2. then negative from trolling motor to (-) battery 2. this method of wiring enables you to run 24 volts. you can use the same 12 volt deep cycle batteries you would use for a 12 volt trolling motor. one thing to remember is if you plan on installing an on board charger, you will need to make sure it can be used on 24 volt systems; not all of them can.
