Football Jigs - benefits of different hooks?

Most of the football jigs I have are made with the standard 90 degree jig hooks. While shopping for a football jig mold I saw that there are also some made with 60 degree hooks in either a standard eye or a flat eye.
What are the pros and cons of each of these three hook types for a bass fishing football jig?
I have read that the 60degree is more snag resistant, but I don’t quite understand the mechanics of this. And I can’t imagine what the difference would be between the flat eye and the standard eye.
